We only have 3 other nations we would consider adversaries - Russia, China and North Korea - and all three have nukes and are boxed in geographically.

As a German from the Rheinland this is devastating.
The ‘Wirtschaftswunder’ that lead to Germany’s phoenix-like ascendancy after WWII, to become one of the world’s richest countries was based on its industrial and manufacturing output…and yes, energy. It was that very ‘coal and steel’ that literally led to the foundation of the European Union.
Tragedy that a ‘country of engineers’ sacrificed its energy independence (nuclear) at precisely the moment it matters the most.
Decarbonisation pursued without industrial strategy is Sovereign suicide. Countries like Germany and Britain are going to learn the harsh reality of that lesson over, and over again, in the AI era.

My advice: The current narrative that Gulf countries are not aligned with the United States is simply false. Governments, especially in Europe, that adopt reflexively anti-Trump positions and assume the Gulf does not view the IRGC as a threat will find themselves isolated from both Washington and Gulf capitals, with long-term consequences including reduced access to Gulf capital and weaker leverage in energy negotiations.

You sell a lot of cars in the US and German engineering is considered amongst the best,but Volkswagen standards seem to be completely collapsing, at least in the states. Not hearing or seeing this with BMW or Mercedes

Yes you are correct that mathematically China and India will eat into each other country’s share of the total GDP pie, but neither China nor India nor the US told Germany to close down its entire nuclear industry. German politicians did that.

The casuistry here is remarkable. This is the simple reality: Like most Americans, most Europeans think this war is a bad idea.Their governments are being asked to take a huge risk by a man who has proved unreliable, volatile and intemperate over and over. Who would do that?

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.
