The EF5 drought is over. The tornado that struck areas near Enderlin ND back on June 20th, 2025 has recently been upgraded to an EF5 with officially estimated winds of >210 mph — unofficial intensity estimates put it around ~266 mph. Absolutely historic day. #wxtwitter #EF5

@MML15MML From someone living in Richmond (10 miles north of Berea) I did not see anything around that time period. I’m not sure what that photo is.

At 6:10 AM CST this day 20 years ago, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in southeast Louisiana, with windspeeds of up to 125 miles an hour. This would bring devistating flooding to the city of New Orleans, in which levee failures caused massive flooding. Storm Surge flooding also was a concern, with the highest surge being reported at 27.8 feet in Pass Christian, Mississippi. 1,833 people were killed, over 7,500 people were injured, and this event still remains one of the deadliest natural disasters in American History.

On August 25th, 1992, Hurricane Andrew was just hours away from making landfall for it’s third and final time. Commonly associated with intense Hurricanes, a series of tornadoes were produced across Louisiana and Mississippi, including a particularly strong F3 that tore through the north side of LaPlace. 2 people were killed and 42 were injured in the whole event, many of which were in LaPlace. Hurricane Andrew remains a top ten on the “Costliest Hurricane” list, due to the sheer intensity of its core windspeeds, its triple landfall, and its tornadoes. - Credited via Tornado Talk (Google)
