We should demand voting rights for long-term legal residents who are in the USA for 10 years and have an approved green card petition, and end country-of-birth discrimination in granting green cards to those who are in USA from 5 years.

The USA should prioritize green cards for people who have lived here for decades. Too many long-term residents have no voting rights, while some who arrived recently already have a voice in government.

People often blame others for their struggles and target whoever is easiest. But hate backfires—those who spread it become expendable first. In the end, they’re often the first to be pushed out by the same systems they try to please.

The U.S. immigration system is broken and traps people in long-term visa dependency. Companies benefit from this system, while workers face uncertainty and limited rights. Stop blaming workers. It’s time to push Congress to fix the laws that created this problem.

bro slowly getting the hang of things Indians: F1 --> OPT --> H1 --> I-140 approved -->keep renewing H1 --> 20 years later --> green card Others: F1 --> OPT --> I-140 approved --> green card --> 5 years later --> citizens --> post on X that 70% H1B goes to Indians
War for the West@War4theWest

Correction: The H1 visa pre-1990 INA bill were not 'dual intent'. The H-1B and L-1 visas were made into dual intent visas in 1990, not later - I mistakenly claimed they were changed in 2003 to this class. The F-1 visa is still not a dual intent visa, nor is the J-1 (exchange visa). Interestingly the 0-1 (extraordinary talent) isn't either explicitly, congress never made it one. But our govt treats it as a dual intent visa anyway. Dual intent means one can apply for permanent immigrant status - Green Card - while on the temporary visa. The intent of my post remains. Why are these visas called 'temporary' when they are endlessly extended while a Green Card application is in process? They function as pathways to permanent immigration. Be Clear: Just because temporary visa is granted and the immigrant can 'intent' to immigrate permanently, they have no reason to expect to be able to immigrate. Yet to hear them talk, the idea that all of them cannot do so is incredibly unfair. The idea of how any of this effects American workers never enters into the picture. It makes no difference to an American citizen who's been replaced by a foreign worker what visa their replacement has been issued. H-1B, L-1, J-1, O-1, Green Card - it's all the same to the American worker.

the rant is always about cancelling "work visas", never about visas/greencards based on family, diversity etc. "work" visas/greencards are a minority vis-a-vis total legal immigration, about 10-15% or so "work" visas overwhelmingly go to those with higher education, salary, low welfare, low crime. while other visas/greencards go to those who are paid way lower, overwhelmingly use welfare and commit crimes at highe rate so what visa/greencard type should actually be cancelled to "avoid becoming another 3rd world country" ?
Wall Street Mav@WallStreetMav

We need to cancel the H1B and other work visa scams if we want to avoid becoming another 3rd world country. We need a 95% reduction in international student visas. There is zero high skilled labor shortage in the USA.

@RoboticsAIOps @ShadesOfBlueAn1 "Why make skilled 'race drivers' wait forever in the queue while letting lazy reckless bad drivers cut the line and threaten the whole road" -- this is the reason almost the whole world hates you. if you are so skilled, why is your country a shithole? improve that.

imagine going to the DMV at 8am you wait for your turn its 9am, 1 hour, and the queue has barely move you wait some more its 10am, you are starting to get impatient line's not moving at all now now it's 12pm, still very little movement now you are starting to question your life choices should you go back and come another day, or stay? you have already invested 4 hours into this maybe you should stay a little longer? clock strikes 3pm, you are really getting mad now another bloke strolls in at 3:15pm he gets immediate service out by 3:25pm you are still there at the DMV and its 4:53pm

It is already absurd that someone comes to the US 20 years after an Indian came to the US, and gets a greencard faster than that Indian

@nicksortor The USA is the only democratic country in the world where you may have to live as a lifetime indentured worker, with no citizenship granted based on years of residency.

@Cloudwatch199 Those who struggle to save themselves often start blaming others. It is true that what they are highlighting is partially valid, but the same legal laws that give them more rights as citizens also exist to keep the country technologically competitive.

Body shops are legal. Working from a home garage is legal. Using a placeholder work address is legal. Operating from a coworking space is legal. Subcontracting is legal. Staff augmentation is legal. Corp-to-corp is legal. 1099 contracts are legal. W2 consulting is legal. Sponsoring visas is legal. Remote employees are legal. Multiple clients are legal. So what’s the “fraud”? You don’t get to redefine the law because you’re bitter, ignorant, or allergic to people running businesses. Not liking an industry ≠ crime. Not understanding how consulting works ≠ scam. If this is your idea of “exposing fraud,” congratulations , you’ve exposed your own incompetence instead.

@priyaee_ Wow, she believes this. She is essentially asking to fire CEOs so that she can become one. How dangerous is this kind of thinking for the USA? Read the article below to understand the problem the USA has created. This should be shared widely. @odimmigrantsgroup/which-country-has-laws-to-discriminate-on-country-of-birth-639b7d83b938" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@odimmigrantsg

ELIMINATE H1-B VISAS!!! I’m so sorry, but when hard-working American citizens are struggling to buy homes due to the cost of living, sky-high interest rates, inflation, etc… foreigners here on temporary visas should NOT be allowed to purchase homes in the U.S. Foreign nationals shouldn’t be allowed to steal our jobs AND our homes.
Info Battle Maiden@info_maiden

H1B holders get mortgages with little or no US credit. They were even receiving lower interest, government-backed FHA loans until May 2025. This is why homes are unaffordable for real citizens. Every single system...benefit foreigners at the expense of Americans. Temporary visa holders should be BANNED from buying homes.

While the woke right sh!ts on 85k per year H1Bs, there is a greencard category that no one talks about. About half a million greencards each year. No labor market test. Folks can directly go on welfare. And it is uncapped, meaning technically there is no limit to how many greencards can be given each year.
