What is on trial in the Eastern Cape is not a provincial conference, a chairperson, or even a faction, it is internal democracy itself. The drama unfolding in the ANC’s Eastern Cape structures, postponed provincial conference, interdicts, Mabuyane’s sharp criticism of “disgruntled members” who dared go to court, the mysterious fake resignation letter attributed to Provincial Secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi, and the ritual invocation of a “third force”, is merely the visible symptom of a deeper crisis: the profound absence of trust in the organisation’s own rules and procedures. When branches and regions cannot trust the membership audit, the credential process, or the conference delegate list to be politically neutral instruments, they reach for the courts as the only remaining neutral arbiter, revealing how the ANC has treated internal democracy not as a principle but as an instrument to be manipulated when convenient and bypassed when threatening. This Eastern Cape saga is therefore no mere sideshow, it is a critical stress test for whether the party still believes in practising internally what it preaches nationally, with the verdict ultimately resting with voters and history in South Africa’s maturing democracy. #ANC #EasternCape #InternalDemocracy #SouthAfricanPolitics #ANCConference #DemocracyInAction

@FikileMlisana @HeraldNMB You’re correct. In defence of a principle, that local government can’t foreground procedure when it’s not enabling it to respond to an emergency. And if acting in good faith, immediate ratification is pessary. I stand by that article.
English

@HeraldNMB @omtimka you had time to write in the defense of this, see now

I’ve put down an offer on this Church that was about to be converted by developers!
I’m sick and tired of seeing derelict and aban but anyway Church is shutting down all across the UK.
If a building was built on a God and to be worship for generations upon generations, it does not need to be sold off to make profit.
When the revival happens, we need churches like this prime and ready!
Comment below if you agree with this idea!

@GodPenuel There is peace that comes not as the world gives, but from the Prince of peace. There is rest for the soul that comes to all who have entered it. There is One who says my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

@PNtlabati @da_myke For the most part of democratic South Africa, your beloved “Cde’s” have literally been the main party that has grappled with the issues the DA is new to at a national level.
English

The DA is going to learn a few things about the party-state nexus at a national level. The idea of the mayor may be solving for one thing, the posture of the party in the GNU, but this is not the end of tensions. An equivalent case is when there is a difference in the ANC between the chairperson of a region or province and the person occupying the mayoral or premier’s office. The ANC coined it two centres of power, and it had real implications. Cabinet or council operates by power dynamics designated in the law and to some extent the out-of-government political arrangements. The latter have no legal recourse when deviated from, whereas the former have to be made in line with the law.
Business Day@BDliveSA
Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis tells Business Day the DA leader remaining outside the GNU cabinet would leave the president with “no sword over his neck” while still steering the coalition’s second-largest party.
