New Canadian Pandemic Act has the potential to infringe on civil liberties, violate individuals' health privacy, grant broad powers to the Minister of Health, and much more. Bill C-293, the Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness Act, which has passed its first reading before the Senate, aims to establish robust measures to mitigate future pandemics. However, a closer look reveals several concerns related to government overreach, health privacy, possible violations of civil liberties, and unclear priorities. One of the primary issues is the bill’s establishment and interlinking of surveillance systems for infectious diseases, both domestically and internationally. The extensive data collection proposed—especially with international linkages involving organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)—raises significant privacy concerns. This could lead to widespread monitoring of citizens’ health data, potentially without their explicit consent. The legislation also mandates collaboration between the federal government, provincial governments, and Indigenous communities to collect and share health data. This requirement may create data privacy, security, and misuse concerns. Another troubling aspect is the bill's broad discretion granted to the Minister of Health and other relevant officials. They are empowered to set pandemic preparedness standards and make far-reaching decisions about public health responses, surveillance, and commercial regulations. The absence of thorough oversight or parliamentary approval for such decisions raises concerns about transparency and accountability, potentially allowing political interests to take precedence over public welfare. Furthermore, the bill compels the Minister of Health and other officials to "leverage international expertise" by adopting internationally developed pandemic prevention metrics. This could result in Canada aligning with global standards that don’t necessarily reflect its domestic needs, limiting the country’s ability to make independent public health decisions. In terms of economic impact, the bill targets commercial activities that "disproportionately contribute to pandemic risk," such as industrial animal agriculture. However, the lack of clarity around what constitutes "disproportionate" could lead to arbitrary decisions, harming industries without solid scientific evidence. This vagueness could spark significant economic disruptions and legal disputes over the scope of such regulations. The bill’s emphasis on the One Health approach—integrating human, animal, plant, and ecosystem health—may also be problematic. While holistic health is important, this broad approach could lead to sweeping environmental regulations under the guise of pandemic prevention, potentially affecting sectors like farming, forestry, and urban development without clear justifications related to pandemics. Lastly, the bill allocates substantial resources to global health equity initiatives, raising concerns that domestic resources could be diverted to international efforts. In summary, while Bill C-293 seeks to enhance pandemic preparedness, its broad language, expanded surveillance powers, and potential for economic disruption pose significant risks. The bill’s lack of transparency and vague definitions could lead to actions that undermine civil liberties, disrupt key industries, and prioritize global interests over Canada's own. BREAKING - I had a great check in call with Mitch Sylvestre this morning! Since the announcement of meeting the 178,000 signature threshold for an independence referendum signature collection has DOUBLED. Albertans are rushing to sign the Independence Petition because they want to be part of history. Albertans want to be able to tell their future kids and grand kids that they STOOD UP FOR A FREE AND INDEPENDENT ALBERTA!

MARK CARNEY's SEIZURE OF METRO VANCOUVER USING FIRST NATIONS BANDS & DRIPA - Do you think CHINA has an interest in Metro Vancouver, Richmond and the PORTS? On Feb. 20, the Carney government released a short statement about the “šxʷq̓ʷal̕təl̕tən Rights Recognition Agreement.” The incomprehensible title refers to a land-claim agreement with the Musqueam Indian Band that will affect most of Greater Vancouver. I can truthfully say this news release is the strangest event I have seen in half-century of observing Indigenous affairs in Canada. Here’s why. Normally, governments announce land-claim agreements with great fanfare, but this one was buried in a fisheries agreement. Even David Eby, the premier of British Columbia, says he was not notified, which is itself incomprehensible. How can the federal government negotiate a major agreement affecting the province’s largest city without notifying the provincial government? The text of such agreements is always made public because the agreements become part of Canadian law, but neither the federal government nor the Musqueam has released the text of this one. It was leaked on March 3 in a Scribd version and can be read in some media accounts, but it’s been withdrawn from Scribd (a digital library service) so it cannot be downloaded. Apparently, the government still doesn’t want the public to see the agreement. According to the text of the agreement, it’s not a treaty or a land-claim agreement—but what should you call it? It’s legally enforceable, and recognizes Musqueam rights and title over most of Greater Vancouver, containing about 1.8 million people. Never before in Canada has Aboriginal title been recognized over a densely-populated area already replete with private titles for residences and businesses. The agreement includes the area near Richmond over which the Cowichan recently received Aboriginal title in a court decision. Never before has the federal government agreed to recognize the Aboriginal title of one First Nation to an area over which a court has recognized the Aboriginal title of another First Nation. fraserinstitute.org/commentary/car…

A veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces stopped me in Red Deer and shared a perspective that I think a lot of people need to hear in full, not reduced to a slogan. He told me his father fought in World War II. He told me his sons served in Afghanistan. This is not somebody speaking casually about loyalty, sacrifice, or duty. This is somebody from a family that has given real service across generations. And his message was blunt: in his view, Canada is no longer being loyal to people like him, and nothing meaningful is going to change in Ottawa. That is why he believes Alberta independence is now the only way forward. Whether someone agrees with that conclusion or not, people should at least understand the depth behind it. For many soldiers, veterans, and military families, loyalty is not an abstract idea. It is tied to duty, sacrifice, service, loss, and trust. The basic belief is that if you give yourself to a country, that country should still reflect the values you served to protect. When people who spent their lives serving begin to feel alienated from the direction of the country, that is not a small thing. I think the concern here is bigger than party politics. It is about the feeling that the institutions of Canada are no longer listening, no longer correcting course, and no longer representing the people who built, defended, and sustained this country. For some veterans, the frustration is not just with one bad policy or one bad government. It is the belief that the system itself is no longer responsive. That is the nuance people miss. When a veteran says Alberta independence is the only way forward, he is not necessarily saying he stopped caring about the country overnight. He may be saying the opposite. He may be saying he cared so much, for so long, that it means something when he finally concludes the relationship is broken beyond repair. A lot of soldiers and veterans may have concerns about even entertaining that idea. They may value unity, continuity, tradition, and the memory of what they served under. They may worry that supporting Alberta independence feels like turning their back on their service, their oath, or the people they served beside. That is a real emotional and moral tension. But the other side of that tension is this: what if loyalty is not supposed to be one-way? What if there comes a point where citizens, including veterans, have the right to say that the political system has become unworthy of their continued trust? What if defending freedom sometimes means being honest about when a government or a national project has drifted too far from the people it claims to represent? That is why this moment mattered. This was not just a random political opinion shouted from the roadside. It was a serious statement from someone whose family has lived service, sacrifice, and national duty. And when people like that start saying Ottawa will not change, others should pay attention. You do not have to agree with him to recognize the weight of what he is saying. Watch this and listen to his words for yourself.

@ToewsWenda @cynthiapace1 @ABDanielleSmith Boxes of signature sheets are still being driven to the collection point. Sylvestre said that they have the needed number plus extra (I’ve heard double),and they aren’t even all gathered yet. Canvassers are still working and Elect AB verifiers are off for Easter this weekend.

"Forever Canadian" collected 404,293 verified signatures to keep Alberta as part of Canada. “Stay Free Alberta" independence petition announced on March 31, 2026, that they collected 177,732 signatures. @ABDanielleSmith How does it make sense to have a separation question added to the referendum??????

@gordo_10001 @jennAA2014 There are about 6000 students in our private homeschool group. They are funded at $1801 each. If you moved the kids from private to public, there would be 6000 more kids in the system funded at $12,000 each. $72M - $10.8M = $61.2M in savings to AB tax payers. That’s 1 school.
