Today the Xerces Society announced that 335,479 monarch butterflies were counted in the Western Monarch Thanksgiving Count last fall. What does it mean? Here is the abridged version.

Southern Dogface (Zerene cesonia) is a #butterfly of the southern half of U.S. (rare in places). Larval host plants are of the Pea familey (alfalfa and clovers). Has wingspan averaging 2.5". Flying year round in extreme southern areas, otherwise May - September.🙂

Our crew member, @nicki_bees at #COP27! Several of our crew members attended this conference and had the opportunity to share this project and the importance of pollinators to people from all around the world! 🐝 🦋
Nicki Bailey (she/her)@nicki_bees

I had the opportunity last week to attend COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. What an amazing glimpse into how climate change policy negotiations occur. Got to rep @parkpollinator as well in our Art Exhibit at the US Center. Long way to go in climate policy, but an important step.

Along with communicating our science through photography and art, we created an exhibit guide to bring in the story telling aspect of it all. Each piece has a short video with an explanation of the photo or artwork.
