Nigel Farage has specific security issues. But £5 million is a massive amount of money. It doesn’t seem credible to me personal security expenditure can account for this level of donation. Or the failure to register. There are serious questions to answer here.

The commercial value of that BBC News plug must be many millions of pounds. If the BBC is going to run such rubbish as news, they should at least charge the sticker-manufacturers, and use the proceeds to save many BBC jobs.

@AsplinKevin Reporters - myself included - have been on this trail ever since Farage rustled up £215k to personally “invest” in Kwasi Kwarteng’s company. Where does a politician find cash like that? The Guardian and other papers have been on the trail for some time. It found the answer.

We also still don’t know how his partner got the £885,000 cash to pay for the house in Clacton Nigel initially said he bought.

Quite apart from the clear attempt to try to get ahead of the story and dictate the narrative, there was a wrinkle in his account. The firebombing he mentioned happened last year – the year after the gift from Harborne. Prior to publication, in correspondence with the Guardian, neither Farage or Harborne’s representatives mentioned security as being an issue at all."

#UPDATE: Following the revelation that Thailand-based investor Christopher Harborne provided Nigel Farage with an undisclosed £5 million personal gift in early 2024 (for security, not registered at the time), Harborne’s cumulative donations to Farage, the Brexit Party, and Reform UK now total around £27–29 million. This makes him the largest single individual donor to a UK political party or politician in recorded modern history (Electoral Commission era, from 2001 onwards), surpassing lifetime totals by figures such as Lord David Sainsbury (around £25–27 million across Labour and Lib Dems) and Frank Hester (over £20 million to the Conservatives). While pre-2001 opacity makes absolute certainty impossible, dramatic larger examples don’t appear in historical accounts, which means Harborne is now almost certainly the biggest individual donor to UK politics in the post-war period. And he doesn’t even fucking live here! And yes, I do know what I’m talking about. I took a close look at Reform UK donors, including Harborne, back in January 2024: bylinetimes.com/2024/01/18/ref…
