Micheal Jordan might be the ultimate example on responding to setbacks. Successful people all have a comeback story. This is because they fought through failures to get them to where they are today. Their legacy was forged through fire, not through ease & comfort.
As you get older, your rebound time should go down. As you learn and grow, your ability to rebound after a setback should shrink. That’s developing mental toughness. I define toughness as, “Be at your best and overcome all adversity.” Setbacks are inevitable. No body is perfect, and there’s always going to be someone better. What do you do with that setback and how do you respond? That determines how your future will play out. All of these people listed embraced delayed gratification. They didn’t take the short-term treat, they worked, overcame and conquered the long-term success.
When setbacks happen, ask yourself, “how can I use this? How can I respond? What needs to improve or change?”

Steve Kerr shares what made Gregg Popovich and Phil Jackson such great coaches.
"What I loved about both of them - they're very different from one another, but they both had the same quality."
"You knew they cared about you. You could feel that they loved you and they cared about you. But you were a little afraid of them."
"Just a little bit. Almost like you'd feel about a parent."
They had that great balance of warm and demanding.
Then he clarified:
"Not afraid physically, but you were afraid to disappoint them. That's probably the better way to put it."
The sweet spot: care and accountability.
"They both cared so deeply about me and my family. They knew everything about my life. They asked questions. They were more engaged and more involved with me than any coaches I ever had."
"Knew all my kids' names. That stuff matters."
"And then at practice, if you weren't on it, you were gonna hear it...What a great combination."
They loved you enough to know you.
They loved you enough to push you.
That's the balance every leader should aim for - care so deeply that people are afraid to let you down.

@readswithravi Dawn Staley said, "Know that on the other side of an uncomfortable situation is growth."
Growth doesn’t live in your comfort zone.
• It lives in discomfort.
• It lives in discipline.
• It lives in daily work.
