Wow... 88 zoos around the world celebrated #InternationalRedPandaDay this year! 🤩
We are so grateful this adorable and important species is getting the attention it deserves. With your help, we raised over $11,000 for red panda conservation on #IRPD 🥰
Thank you for all your support and partnership; we couldn't save red pandas without you!

@eatonphil Iceberg supports atomic rename (available in some filesystems like hdfs but not object stores)
English

Correcting myself. While Iceberg and Delta Lake store the immutable data files similarly, the way they manage concurrency is pretty different.
Delta Lake's approach is very simple (simple != better) and just needs atomic PutIfAbsent. Iceberg requires a CAS to update the current metadata pointer which seems to require an actual database?

@andyhattemer @MaterializeInc How about animal sizes: squirrel, racoon, hippo, brontosaurus.
English

The @MaterializeInc approach of naming computes like engine sizes "50cc, 100cc, 200cc..." is so much better than t-shirt sizing.

Since #ScyllaDB and @redpandadata are built for data-intensive applications, it makes perfect sense to set up a CDC integration between the two. See how to set one up using a Debezium CDC connector that's compatible with #Kafka Connect. ow.ly/V40s50REnuG

@dieworkwear Would be interesting to learn about periods in history in any civilization where fashion wasn’t coded as frivolous/feminine.
English

@MarcJBrooker But then people ask for low latency geo distributed systems and CAP is a great way to explain the tradeoffs since network latency ~= network partition.
English

Let's assign CAP to the cabinet of curiosities: brooker.co.za/blog/2024/07/2…
If you’re an experienced distributed systems person teaching new folks about trade-offs in your space, please don’t start with CAP. Tons of more interesting, more instructive, trade-offs.
