The reason oiran wore extremely tall and heavy wooden sandals (often 15–30 cm high) was both practical and performative. They helped keep the long, elaborate kimono hems from getting dirty, and also created the distinctive, elegant walking style known as hachimonji-aruki. Oiran were not people you could normally see in daily life. When they appeared in processions such as the oiran dōchū, large crowds gathered to watch. At the time, Yoshiwara was not seen simply as a dark red-light district. It was also a center of fashion, culture, and entertainment—something like a popular attraction. Souvenirs were even sold there. Oiran themselves were admired figures across the country, by both men and women. Artists and women interested in fashion would come to observe them and take inspiration. Because of this, the act of an oiran going to meet a client was deliberately staged as a kind of parade, designed to be seen and admired by the public.

Witnessing an Oiran Dochu, a traditional procession of high-ranking courtesans from Japan's Edo period, with stunning kimonos and their unique Sotohachimonji walk, is truly mesmerizing! ✨🌸

The IT guy was acting like a peer. “Ah false alarm” as in there wasn’t a huge problem and it was easy to solve. A court room doesn’t work like that though. It works under STRICT hierarchy and a judge is NOT anyone’s peer. In defense of the judge- you can’t let stuff like that slide in your courtroom if you want to maintain the image of you being in total control of the room. Which is his job. In defense of the IT guy- he didn’t mean anything by it and he successfully fixed the problem. No huge problem here.

@Miss_Oluremi Hard to believe you all sat there and watched and just cried?! At minimum someone who cared about her could’ve gotten the ring off in a less traumatic way, did that not occur to anyone?

My 22 year old cousin was in a car accident with her fiancé, he had been drinking. She had her neck broken and was consequently a quadriplegic. He asked for his engagement ring back. She said he could have it but would have to take it off her finger, which he did. Her fingers were curled up. He had to straighten her ring finger out and took the ring off. She cried the entire time, and we all did.

@florigoaway You expect us to believe this? Person A left a gift for person B at their door. Person B didn’t want the gift so they returned it, but didn’t even know where Person A (their neighbor) lived because they left it at the wrong house. Also they have identical handwriting lmao

@teachermother1 I went to a market like this and there were strict guidelines around parent involvement. Parents couldn’t handle payments or give out product.

the culture of rating everything we consume (books, movies, music) is such a disservice to art we should stop rating it and start writing reviews instead

I share about 100 yards of drive way with my ~70yr old neighbors. For some reason he’s obsessed with knocking down the center grass in the middle of the tire ruts and covering it with gravel. He talks about it all the time, probably 30% of all conversations I have with him are about this. He’s asking if I want to pitch in for more gravel, etc. When I put my parents in a guest house behind the barn, my dad started talking about it too. He got some roundup and sprayed his section of road. Am I missing something here? I see no problem with it. It looks fine. It occupies 0% of my mind. I’m prepared to spend 0 dollars to remedy this “problem” What is happening?

Found out today that I'm for sure inheriting this place from my aunt and uncle. It needs some sprucing up in places but that's half the joy, the perfect way to teach my son two dozen different skills then leave it and its 13 acres to him mortgage-free. Fill it with babies, son.

@smallandwisea @handsumquis This is true, it’s also easier to get into activities as a child vs as an adult when you have to make team or be a top performer to excel at something.

@handsumquis i know a lot of people whose hobbies as kids are things that no longer work for them now - like an intense sport or school competitions, band, etc. These things are much harder to come by and feel less impactful as adults and I think that’s a lot of people you’re talking about

@handsumquis It’s not about hobbies — it’s about identity. People with no interests often depend on you for everything, which can feel heavy. Hobbies show independence, curiosity, and a life of their own — and that’s what makes someone truly attractive.

this is why I’m glad I’m southern bc i don’t think I’ve ever experienced this. once I was taking abt different eggnogs with my friend, this elderly couple overhead & asked if it was better than the brand they bought. I said hell yeah & they said thank you & grabbed two bottles 😭

This video is triggering. I asked a random girl in the H Mart if she ever tried the bread I was looking at and if it’s good. She acted like I just told her something horrible. It made me feel so weird I walked home reminding myself that it’s okay to talk to people 🤣 that really messed me up. People can’t be normal anymore.

Looking at dresses online for my daughter and it just really REALLY bugs me when there are cherries on little girl clothes. You’re really going to sexualize this fruit, broadly associate it with losing virginity, and then… put it all over children’s clothing? Wtf?
