The authors discovered that PAM is a useful technique for observations of vocalizations in African Manatees and recommended that it be used in future studies due to its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

The research team utilized passive-acoustic monitoring twice over three days in Lake Ossa, Cameroon with an underwater acoustics recorder. The recorder was placed near a known manatee feeding area and was continuously recorded.
