Man Convicted of Eating His Own Mother. A Minnesota man is now facing an automatic life sentence after a judge convicted him of killing and partially eating his own mother in their lakeside home. Eric Leif Jordahl, 26, was found guilty Thursday of first-degree premeditated murder along with two counts of second-degree murder in the death of 62-year-old Rosalie “Rose” Johnson. The attack took place on July 23, 2020, inside their house in Big Lake, according to court records. It started late that night in Johnson’s bedroom. She had told her son to go back to bed when he suddenly attacked, punching her, stabbing her multiple times with a butcher knife, and biting her, according to the criminal complaint. Medical examiners later determined he also cut up and ate parts of her body while she was still alive. The next morning, Jordahl’s father, Andrew Jordahl, came home and found his son standing in the garage covered in blood. The son told him, “The devil exists, it’s in me, and I ate mom,” police reports say. Johnson had served on the Big Lake City Council since January 2019 and stayed active in local groups like the community lake association and the school district’s education advisory board. Jordahl waived a jury trial, so Sherburne County Judge Karen Schommer decided the case. The first-degree murder conviction carries an automatic life sentence without parole. He heads back to court Monday for a hearing on his mental-illness defense, which could send him to a psychiatric facility instead of prison.
