Learned a delightful fact today: One of my favorite trees, the Magnolia, is about 100 million years old as a species. Which means dinosaurs smelled and saw them!
squeeze EVERYTHING out of each and every day.
don't let a minute go to waste.
you can do WAY more in a day than you think you can.
we're young, we have so much capacity.
we have so much energy.
use every drop of it.
then get home.
fall dead asleep.
wake up.
and repeat.
life lives in the extremes.
Fall in love with life, Dom. Fall in love with making your cup of coffee in the morning. Fall in love with doing the dishes. With taking your kids to school. With the job you’re so lucky you get to do. Fall in love with the people around you. What fascinating and glorious lives they live. Fall in love with your barista. With the mailman. Ask him about his day. Talk awhile. Fall in love with the birds on your window. Fall in love with the food you’re blessed to eat. With the clothes you get to wear. Fall in love with the person you’re already with. Fall in love with yourself. Fall in love over and over and over again, with every stranger you meet. Life is love. And what a lovely thing it is, to be alive.
I’m very serious about this. You need to be making your home a beautiful and orderly place. Your home, then your wardrobe, then your yard and garden, then the borders of your place, then your neighborhood, town, state, country. It all radiates outward.
But you can’t think about all that. You can only control your immediate surroundings, where you live and what you wear. This orders your mind - and the way you dress sends signals to everyone who sees you, that you care, that people around them care. That we are fully formed adults whose actions in the world matter.
When COVID shut everything down I started building a tiki hut out of old wooden pallets and pieces of wood I’d been collecting in my barn for years.
Most of the wood was free. Just pallets I pulled apart one board at a time.
Somewhere along the way I fell deep into 1940s–60s American tiki culture… collecting mugs, menus, old recipes, the whole thing.
Soon friends and family were coming by, neighbors pulling up in boats.
I’d make the margaritas.
Strange time… but honestly some pretty great memories. 🏝️🍹

>wake up at 6am
>drive 45 min in traffic
>spend all day on virtual calls
>buy a $20 slop bowl
>spend final 5 hours pretending to work

Look at your wardrobe. Your meals. Your routines. Your home. Do they reflect the person you want to be? If not. Adjust. Decide now. Change. Everything is a mirror. What you tolerate, you become.
