@MatthewPTaranto @DanGuy96 In this case, it’s because he’s playing a role that was previously established as sounding a certain way (Italian caricature). Compared to, say, casting Hanks as Woody because they thought he should sound like Hanks.
I wouldn’t say Tim Allen is just doing himself as Buzz.

The funny thing is that Chris Pratt *WANTED* to exaggerate his voice and use a Tony Soprano impression when voicing Mario, but the producers said “no, dial it back so we can recognize you.”
Many of these actors do at least want to try to sound distinct, but execs limit them.

Back in the 2010s there was a company called Carpe Fulgur that translated Recettear and others. It was an amazing localization team that spawned a lot of iconic quotes like “Capitalism, ho!” and “Yayfications!” Localization wasn’t always hated. What changed?

@J_Anne_Bonne @aidoruhakase Speaking of Nasu and Fate, you have people who hate all localizations but also say that Nasu is wrong for forcing the use of Artoria....well, which one is it? Here's an example of the original creator/writer putting their foot down on a change but you all hate it!

One thing I really loved about this showing of Speed Racer is they shown a little video before hand and explaining very briefly the history of the film! I managed to record most of it. Only missing the intro and stopping when I thought it was over, missing him introducing the cast. I would love to have this in full for archives in the museum!
