@moonrakerteach I agree with some of this. But if small schools get a boosted per-head funding it won't be long before they start getting closed down for being uneconomical (it already happens but could be made worse).

@rbrown91 Ofsted can recognise the unique challenges of curriculum leadership in small schools. We need to bonus budget small schools so that their funding allows a deputy to be appointed on the SLT scale. The sums for one deputy post holder allowance would be relatively small.

Headrest have over several years received a plethora of calls from leaders of small schools. The demands upon them strike me as being excessive. Yet this issue seems to me largely unaddressed at a local and national level.

@moonrakerteach What's the real solution do you think? Ofsted can be made "nicer" but will always be stressful. You can't remove duties of a DSL, finance, HR, facilities etc Subjects need leading, classes need taught. How is the job possible?

The small school leaders we have spoken to are dedicated/committed practitioners. They sadly all too often feel that others do not always grasp the complexity of their role nor its adverse impact on their well being. Their role is a lonely one. They deserve better support.

@SupermarineFC How two officials at this level missed the pull on Harry Williams is beyond me. They were not the reason for defeat. They did blot their own otherwise good performance with that moment of poor officiating. What is the point of assistants if they can’t inform the ref when he errs.

@Peston Gambling commission failed in its role - insider betting is one thing and clearly wrong. Guidance on candidate betting on their own constituency - key question - have they offered any guidance on what they deem acceptable and unacceptable?

BREAKING: The Gambling Commission is asking the betting companies to supply information on whether other parliamentary candidates have placed bets - as Kevin Craig did - on losing in their respective seats in the forthcoming election, or placed bets where there is an appearance of exploiting privileged or inside information. It raises the likelihood of more embarrassing disclosures by candidates and their parties in the coming days before the election. How many other candidates will be disowned by the Tories and Labour before 4 July?
