YouTube Algorithm Explained
[Like and Bookmark this]
I watched a Q&A with the YouTube Employee who understands the 'Algorithm' better than anyone
I summarized it below:
Can a bad video hurt your channel?
No. If you upload a bunch of bad videos, but your next one is amazing, it can still get pushed.
YouTube realizes the potential of each individual video and won't punish you for having flops
Your next video could be a viral video on YouTube
Does the Algorithm ever stop pushing a video?
No. So stop stressing about how well a video does in the first 24 hours, first week, first month, etc.
Sometimes you get recommended a video from 2 years ago
If your video is underperforming, maybe change the thumbnail/title
Otherwise, let it do its thing
a 10/10 can become a 1/10 with time
If I get a Viral Video that's different from my normal content, will it hurt my channel?
No. Similar to how you don't want your videos to be shown to the wrong viewers
YouTube doesn't want to show the wrong videos to the wrong viewers either
YouTube looks at each individually differently, so stop overthinking and deleting videos.
How does the Recommendation System work?
When a Viewer opens up YouTube, the Recommendation Engine looks at these things:
• What device a user is on (Phone, TV, PC)
• What time of day it is
• History of videos watched
Then decides 'What are the BEST videos to show this person right now'
This is why you get recommended different types of videos if you're on YouTube at Night compared to the Morning
Does the Algorithm punish Creators for taking breaks?
No. If you upload a GOOD video after a Break, YouTube will only benefit by showing it to more people
That's why the Recommendation System is based on individual videos and not your channel as a whole
YouTube won't punish you for taking breaks because they want GOOD videos to freely find their audience.
If the Algorithm follows Audience behavior, should Creators too?
Yeah. If the content you make isn't that relevant anymore, or people aren't as interested in it anymore
Then you can't keep uploading it and wondering why people aren't watching
As the public's interest changes, you have to adapt to it
You can check the Audience tab in your analytics to see what other channels your audience has been watching, and study that

anyways that's it :)
if you enjoyed this, share it with another Creator
thank you @YouTubeLiaison and @hitsman for all the insight
