This statement, along with his handling of this crisis, exposes a dangerous failure to protect lives and uphold basic human dignity for fellow Africans living in South Africa. This is not an isolated lapse. During his last visit to Washington DC and subsequent meeting with President Trump, he appeared hesitant and ineffective in defending his country’s citizens on the global stage. Now, faced with violence at home, he has again fallen short.
