Leo Frobenius, the excavator of this art in 1910, claims that the yoruba people of the old ife know little to nothing in regards to the origin of the art or it relationship with olókun. - He also claims ife people know little to know about olókun as different narration persists on it origin in ife. -Fran willet and Murray in 1958 also suffered the same scenario during their excavation of the Igbo-Olokun site, they noted priests in the grove knew nothing about the objects in the shrine as a priest can easily give 3 different narration on olókun. - The ife priest inability to identify this art isn't because they wanted to be bias but according to Fran willet they simply do not know their origin, this compared to the edo olókun worship and version, where urhonigbe stands as the national Pilgrimage site of olokun worldwide.
