Two streams - One from the delta the other from the tamirabharani areas.. the old story is that the rule of Palakkad had a falling out with the namboodris and they left the area - and the ruler there invited brahmana's from TN to settle there in agraharams. The earliest four - kalpathi (0ld and new) govindarajapuram and shekaripuram There is an inscription in the kalpathi Sivan temple that has been dated to around 1424 CE - that suggest that both the kalpathis govindarajapuram and chatapuram where in existence at the time of the inscription. Some interesting corrobarations - the kalpathi shivan temple still follows the traditions of the mayuranatha swami temple in Mayavaram In govindarajapuram under the tree near the river the old sarpas of the nambudri familes are preserved. The agreement when the Tamil brahmins moved here was - that they will do a puja for these deities in one ayilyam in a year.. Have collected some titbits over the years.. PIC copyright with owner

Not exactly sure how old the Palakkad Iyer migration is - some say 500 years - but it's quite surprising that their language including the grammatical structure is totally unchanged and it's purely Tamil with a few Malayalam vocabulary and spoken in a unique accent. Is it because it is just across the Kongu Nadu border or they were somehow in constant touch with their relatives in Thanjavur? I don't see any Kongu Tamil influence in their Tamil though.

Long before modern discussions about women in leadership, Rudrama Devi had already commanded armies, ruled an empire, defeated rebellions and carved her name into history. Not merely a queen. A sovereign. A warrior. A legend.

@iyer_prasanna Their ancestors did Punya, they themselves did good deeds in past lives and their Kula Devata protects them. These are the contributory factors to long life span. The diet is a consequence of this ancestry.

@iyer_prasanna The deeper reason is their Karmasaya. Yogasutra (2.12/2.13) kleśamūlaḥ karmāśayo dṛṣṭādṛṣṭajanmavedanīyaḥ sati mūle tadvipāko jātyāyurbhogāḥ As long as kleśa remains at the root, karmāśaya produces three consequences in the form of birth, span of life and experience

*World Iyer and Iyengar Forum - The effect of diet and spirituality on longevity.* *Vegetarian communities of Tamil origin and Palghat Brahmins mostly reach age of 95 easily in general. Some cross 100.* *Evidence: Times of India Obituary columns.* *They eat very little. Filter Coffee and butter milk constitutes main part of their food.* *Rasam, Rice, Sambhar, and one curry is their usual meal. Around 40% of them are diabetic in general, but their sugar elevations are generally marginal only and not too high.* *In the morning they take two dosas in general. In the afternoon little meal and in the night say around 8pm another meal. By 4 pm one filter coffee and by 6am another filter coffee.* *Daily walk for minimum half an hour. Chanting of/listening to Vishnu Sahasranamam or Rudhram&Chamakam every morning after bath. Half of the males do sandhyavandhanam too mandatorily.* *They are conservative when it comes to fuel/electricity usage and hence generally walk to the markets to buy vegetables/groceries often.* *They don't feel the need to show off expensive consumer goods to impress others, nor do they get impressed by them. Their investments if any would be in gold or real estate. Not to forget the humble fixed deposit!* *Stress symptoms, Cholesterol/Trigliceride elevations, Cancer, heart issues are minimal in them, due to their low salt, low oil, and healthy food. Oil we can see in Thadka or while frying papadam/fryums(may be thrice in a month). Else oil consumption on daily basis is very minimal.* *Sandwich/pizza/pasta/other forms of fast foods are all out of their menu. If they consume one of these once in a year, that can be considered a party day!!* *Major reason for the less stress atmosphere, is their spiritual inclination and ‘let go’ attitude when they face shortfalls/failures. They generally leave success and failures to God.In general they live a destitute life in Tamil Nadu where the Dravidian politics is hell bent to drive them out as did Kashmir to their Pandit counter parts*.* *But their non-confrontational attitude helps them pull on. However, they are well off in other states/abroad. Maharashtra, Gujrat, Delhi, Karnataka are the places where they get due recognition for their service and integrity to their employers.* *Their low masala/low salt/low spice food generally fails to trigger extreme anger/daily fights etc and sometimes you may find them failing to get angry even where they are supposed to. This diet coupled with high spirituality are the core reasons for their longevity.* *Proud to be a Tamizh BRAHMIN.*. Content courtesy @bgopu1973

@Manashiwrites @monidipadey @punarutthana In the 1950's and 1960's, people from South India used to take a job posting in Kolkata to be just in the land of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda. Hope those times return.

@Manashiwrites @monidipadey @punarutthana You may listen to stories, have pics and visit places. But Bengalis in general ignored their teachings and philosophy. Hence Bengal paid the price in 50 lost years and unnecessary pain.

West Bengal CM Suvendhu Adhikari doing pronaam to RKM sanyasis is an extremely important message in the changing scenario of WB’s political history. For those who aren’t aware of the political discourse of WB, one needs to look back at the Communist era to realise why this image is so important. The Communists considered Ramakrishnadeva as an illiterate epileptic, while swami Vivekananda was seen as a Hindu fanatic. So the Communists wanted to take over the RKM schools and indoctrinate their young students with Marxism, and teach them to hate Ramakrishnadeva and his teachings. It is said that Pramode Dasgupta had even threatened the Ramakrishna Math and Mission with demolition of the Belur Math and replacing it with a coffee house. To achieve the destruction of RKM, the Jyoti Basu led Communist Government decided to infiltrate and destroy autonomy of all Ramakrishna Mission run schools, colleges, and Universities in West Bengal, by placing their CPI(M) goons within the governing boards. To stop this, RKM went to the Court. Their lawyers advised them that the only way to stop the CPI(M) government from destroying RKM was to declare itself as a minority (non-Hindu) institution. This is because the Indian Constitution gives protection only to the minority institutions from political interferences. This way RKM bought itself 20 years through the litigation, and were saved from destruction. When the case was finally lost, CPIM was on its way out. Ramakrishna Math and Mission never dissociated itself from Hinduism. They took the only available legal way to save their organization from Communist takeover : they declared themselves as a non-Hindu organization. That way they gained time and survived. People who have not lived through the Left reign of terror in West Bengal during the Jyoti Basu period, will not be able to comprehend the extreme fear, and difficulties faced by the Hindu organisations at that time. TMC as a political body continued with the Communist type rule of terror, which was and is still visible, thanks to social media presence. So that pronaam in a public space signals the end of reign of terror, and free functioning of Hindu institutions 🙏

@monidipadey @punarutthana The Ramakrishna mission works silently but adds a few percentage points to India's GDP every year through their activities in education and health. Cant think of any other organization with this large an impact. The true Bharat Ratnas.

@monidipadey @punarutthana It is a wonder that the Bengali people chose to ignore Ramprasad Sen, Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, Sarada Ma and Sri Aurobindo for this long. These are the greatest intellects of India in the last 200 years.

@DefiledGod In Sankhya and Yoga, the self awareness and object awareness are assigned to the Purusha and Prakriti respectively thus avoiding this impossible situation

@DefiledGod In the statement - I hear a sound - I am both self aware as well as aware of the object (sound) in this case. If the mind was momentary, it can use that to either be self aware or object aware but not both.

This analogy falls apart when you consider that a chariot cannot run on its own. It needs a chariot driver, inseparable to the chariot but distinct from it. Likewise, the body, or transmigration is a sum of various parts of prakRti but needs the Atman to go from birth to birth.
Ravinder Reddy@MRavinderReddi

6/Why is there nobody on top? A principle runs under all Buddhist thought: the parts are real, the whole is only a convention. A chariot is just wheels, axle and frame put together; there is no extra "chariot" sitting above the parts. You are the same. Only the pieces, with no self above them. 6/20

@MumukshuSavitri Brahmo Samaj did not take the Advaita Vedanta path at all. Adi Sankara held the Sabda Pramana of the Vedas as supreme (as did Kumarila Bhatta). Brahmo Samaj did not believe in Sabda Pramana. It imploded and disbanded after Keshav Chandra Sen became Ramakrishna's disciple.

in 1988 a physicist named Jack Crenshaw got tired of compiler textbooks being unreadable so he wrote his own tutorial on a BBS called "Let's Build a Compiler" he starts from a parser that handles exactly one digit and adds one feature per installment until you have a real compiler at the end
