For years, Haim, a Jewish band with family from Israel, refrained from commenting on Israel or antisemitism. Fair enough. I’m of the firm belief that artists don’t need to engage in identity politics/global affairs for clout. But the explosion of antisemitism recently directed at Alana Haim proves that not commenting is not enough and will not save you. You don’t need a commercial for luxury apartments in Herzliya to be a target.

I felt compelled to go see Disclosure Day last night. How could I resist a new Steven Spielberg movie about humanity meeting aliens (again!) in 2026? I'm not made of stone.
I had some quibbles, of course, but it was a very fun and exceptionally well made (of course) movie and I really enjoyed it.
I also got a big kick out of how Boomer-coded it was. The most outlandish part of it's science fiction premise is that it the story exists in time-out-of-time where every human being can get simultaneous perfect video reception on their phones at all times and places, but they would use that to watch TV news.

Steven Spielberg, I've been a fan of your work for years, but Disclosure Day was a huge disappointment. The story never grabbed me, the pacing felt painfully slow, and I found myself bored for most of the movie. I'll have to be much more cautious about your future projects.

This implies that a movie needs to explain and spoonfeed everything to the audience to be good, instead of requiring you to think about what you're seeing.
Hint: the device can't be explained, because the people who are using it don't actually understand its purpose...

Spoiler Alert: Disclosure Day isn't really about aliens or anything like that. It's about magical glow sticks that are never explained or exposited, but comprise the overwhelming bulk of the plot. They also do whatever Spielberg and Koepp need them to do whenever the plot runs aground.
