She pressed it firmly over Bella’s nose and mouth, the fabric sealing both airways in one merciless motion, and knotted it brutally tight at the nape of her neck, forcing Bella’s head back slightly and turning every inhale into a shallow, desperate pull through the cloth. Bella’s eyes watered, nostrils flaring uselessly against the gag that smothered sound and scent alike. The demon girl finally released her jaw but kept one hand splayed on Bella’s shoulder, pinning her in place. Up close, her curling black horns gleamed faintly under the alley’s weak light, pink-streaked hair brushing Bella’s cheek as she leaned in. “Listen, princess,” she murmured, voice a rough purr laced with something almost apologetic, “I’m not here to hurt you—much. Name’s Vex. Got a pack of glowy-winged assholes and their priest lapdogs on my tail since sundown. They’ve got wards, trackers, the whole heavenly SWAT thing going. One scream from you and they’ll zero right in on this shitty little hideout. So you’re staying put with me till the heat dies down.” She gave Bella’s bound wrists a casual pat, almost playful. “Be good, keep quiet, and maybe you walk away when the angels fuck off. Deal?” Bella could only stare wide-eyed over the tight bandana, heart slamming, the world narrowed to the rough weave pressing against her lips and the demon’s amused crimson gaze promising that this situation might stretch far longer than she could bear.
