President of Botswana: “When Botswana had a shortage of medicines, I didn’t write a letter… I called President Mnangagwa (of Zimbabwe)… I spoke with him over the phone for barely 2 minutes…. In those 2 minutes, commitments were made, and action commanded… and results followed” ….
Effective leadership from President @duma_boko & President @edmnangagwa … unnecessary bureaucracy & formalities may hinder progress!

THE MAVERICK OF MASHONALAND: THE RAPID ASCENT AND DUAL IDENTITY OF TINO MACHAKAIRE
By Gabriel Manyati
Few figures in Zimbabwean politics have traversed the distance from the sawdust of a carpentry workshop to the plush corridors of ministerial power as rapidly as Tinoda "Tino" Machakaire.
At 44 years old, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training represents a newer, wealthier and more enigmatically positioned breed of ZANU PF politician.
He is a man who exists at the intersection of populist appeal and immense private fortune, a character whose life story reads like a quintessential, albeit controversial, Zimbabwean dream.
To understand the current trajectory of the ruling party’s succession politics and its outreach to a disillusioned "born-free" generation, one must understand the man colloquially known as "Tinmac."
The Genesis of a Tycoon
Born in Bulawayo in late 1981, Machakaire’s early years were not paved with the gold that now adorns his lifestyle.
His journey is one of relentless hustle, a trait he often references when addressing the youth.
After completing his secondary education at St Mary’s Secondary School, he did not immediately find a seat at a university.
Instead, he found a hammer.
In 1998, he was a simple carpenter in Harare, followed by a stint as a contract worker for ZESA in Rusape.
This period of manual labour is central to his political brand; it allows him to claim a shared struggle with the millions of Zimbabweans currently toiling in the informal sector.
The hyper-inflationary era of the mid-2000s, which broke many established businesses, was the making of Machakaire.
Like many survivors of that decade, he engaged in cross-border trade and the precarious world of parallel market currency exchange.
He famously started his transport empire with a single vehicle, plying the Marange route.
By 2007, he had formalised this into TinMac Investments.
Today, TinMac is a behemoth in the logistics sector, moving fuel and goods across Southern Africa with a fleet that rivals the largest established firms in the region.
It is this background that allows him to speak to the youth with a level of perceived authenticity, often saying, "I know what it means to start from nothing; I have walked the path of the informal trader before I sat in this office. Poverty is a garment I have worn, and I know how to take it off."
Political High Points and the Youth Agenda
Machakaire’s formal entry into the sunlit world of politics came in 2018 when he won the Wedza South parliamentary seat.
His rise thereafter was meteoric, fueled by a combination of personal wealth and a knack for grassroots mobilisation.
Appointed as Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation under Kirsty Coventry in 2019, he quickly became the visible face of the ministry.
Whilst Coventry brought international prestige, Machakaire brought the "street cred" and the financial muscle to fund youth tournaments and arts festivals out of his own pocket.
His elevation to a full cabinet minister in September 2023 was seen by many analysts as a strategic move by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Machakaire represents a bridge to a demographic that the older "command" generation of ZANU PF struggles to reach.
He has championed the reopening and refurbishment of vocational training centres across the country, arguing that the solution to youth unemployment lies in tangible skills rather than just academic degrees.
During a recent tour of a facility in Mashonaland East, he noted: "We must move away from the culture of seeking employment and move towards the culture of creating it. Our vocational centres are the factories of the future, and if we do not empower the hands of our youth, their minds will be occupied by the devil of drugs."
Shadows of Controversy and "Crony Capitalism".

Two videos, one country.
First video: rowdy black South Africans brandishing medieval weapons like sticks, assegais and shields threatening black immigrants in South Africa.
Second video: white South Africans beat the hell out of black South Africans who go on to scatter like sheep
I have no comment!
