Today I joined Ugandans at Nkoyoyo Boarding Primary School grounds in Matale, Buikwe District, to celebrate the International Labour Day . I told the people that unemployment is not due to lack of jobs, but wrong choices and lack of focus. Many of the Bazzukulu are studying courses that are not aligned to the job market. I have guided the Ministry of Education to provide clear direction so learners choose relevant fields and we shall take it up , I would also advise those who have done such irrelevant courses to go for retooling.

Today in 2007, Brig Noble Mayombo died at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. He was 42 years old. There was speculation that he was poisoned which prompted the government to launch an investigation led by Brig James Mugira into the cause of his death. The report has never been made public. By the time of his death, Brig Mayombo was the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Defence. Mr Museveni suggested that Mayombo may have fallen victim to a gang within the region that had him on a hit list. Norbert Mao described him as a brilliant man inside a system that encouraged mediocrity. That he made mediocrities look worse by his brilliance. His most notable quote: “I’m not just a state agent. I’m the state. I’m a soldier in the NRA and I’m very proud of it. If that’s a crime, then don’t vote for me”. LEST WE FORGET: As we mark Labour Day, let us remember that on the same day in 2007 we lost Brig. Noble Mayombo - another fruit that fell unripe. He was my most worthy opponent in the 1990 Makerere Guild race. The parity of esteem that defined our relationship blossomed into a personal friendship and comradeship which enabled us to close ranks in the fight against corruption as MPs. Talk about a sense of wit, here is one who had one with a double sting. When he was being queried about alleged torture in military detention centers using snakes and scorpions, Noble replied: “I don’t have a budget for snakes and scorpions!” As I reflect on the difficulty of replacing such a leaders and the deep loss we felt after his death, I borrow from Shakespeare and ask: “"Whence cometh such another?”

This morning I delivered condolence messages and financial support of Shs. 5m from HE President @KagutaMuseveni to each of the families whose loved ones perished last Saturday when a vehicle rammed into worshippers returning from prayers at Kabwohe Town, Sheema Municipality. HE also contributed Shs. 1m to the two survivors (all young children) who are undergoing treatment. I thank HE the President for the compassion and support and also thank my friend and sister Hon. @LillianAber Minister of State Disaster Preparedness and Refugees for delivering my report to HE and coordinating the response.@StateHouseUg @OPMUganda
