Sometimes, I does wonder what would happen if the millions of Caribbean people living in the USA…just went back home in masse. Cause the way Jim Crow pt 2 kicking off, we might just have to bounce.

my most vivid middle school memory is when my history teacher told us she laid awake at night wondering how many great philosophers, mathematicians, writers, scientists, weren’t allowed to read or write due to the trans-atlantic slave trade

I keep telling y'all Jamaica's closest ties are to the Jamaican descendants in Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, San Andreas island in Colombia, and Bay Islanders. Our ties are in central America not the Eastern Caribbean. More people should learn about these communities.
Simon Johnson@guruintraining_

You know what i have realised. Jamaica is one of the least integrated islands. Distance is likely a factor. Integrated here meaning, when you go to the EC or Barbados/Trinidad, it’s not uncommon to meet someone that has roots in different islands.

Never got into that Island war nonsense cause my Mother Dominican , Father Nevisian, Grandfather Antiguan , Great grand mother Kittitian. 3/4 of my cousins on my father side mothers are Jamaican. My God Mother's are Guyanese and Bajan. The whole region basically raised me.

To Caribbean people living abroad, you don’t: - have to drop your accent. - reduce yourself to fun, rum and coconuts for their entertainment. You can integrate without losing yourself. Out ancestors didn’t enrich you w. power and culture for you to “fit in” somewhere else.

a mutual liking this really put me in a throwback mood because I started reading about 19th century intra-Caribbean migration casually back then only to eventually find out one branch of my family was full of the people from St. Thomas and Curaçao in question.

Reading the most common origin of the ships that would disembark in my hometown in the 19th century: 1) St. Thomas 2) Curaçao 3) Coro (today, 🇻🇪) 4) Antigua 5) Cumaná (today, 🇻🇪) 6) St. Barthélemy 7) "Saint Domingue" (today, 🇩🇴/🇭🇹) 8) Martinique 9) Costa Firme (today, 🇨🇴)

I am from the Caribbean, and if you are not from there then the stories I tell you now might not make immediate sense. Or you might think I'm lying, or perhaps exaggerating. Sometimes Caribbean logic is its own. - Kei Miller, Writing down the Vision
