Each hyperscale AI beast chews through land measured in hundreds of acres (some topping a thousand), power equivalent to 100,000 homes, and millions of gallons of water a day for cooling. They need rare earth magnets, copper, and the rest of the periodic table’s premium shelf just to hum. Washington and the tech oligarchs scream “national security” and “supply-chain independence” from China yet the domestic solution conveniently involves clearing your backyards. Old mine lands? Reclaimed? Flood-scarred? Perfect. Cheap power grid already in place, fresh roads getting paved under “infrastructure” bills, mineral leases getting signed, and tourism trails prettifying the handover. Meanwhile, the opioid and fentanyl plague… another crisis the same regime can’t seem to slow keeps the population numb, divided, and demographically compliant. Flood hits? No serious rebuild money for the working folks who actually live here. Instead, tidy little federal and state buyout programs (hundreds of millions funneled through FEMA, USDA, local deals) that raze homes, turn property over to “public use” or private redevelopment, and leave families with checks that wouldn’t cover a decent used truck.
