Ok so one thing I learned on like day 2 of being a lawyer is that asserting a fact based on what your client tells you without verifying it another way is... not diligence. It's in fact the opposite

There's this idea that I've seen a few times recently that millennial women were swindled by the culture into thinking a better, more equal life was possible for us (true), but blaming the women who said it was possible instead of the men who robbed us of the opportunity

I think that millennial women who write /wrote about feminism through the lens of their individual experiences in the early 2010s had outsized power given the structures they were working in but, like, they got squished like the rest of us by capitalism

I would add that I and a lot of younger millennials I know harbor resentment toward the Lindy Wests of the world for the time and words wasted on petty individualistic grievance politics while we lost all right to control our own bodies. Jezebel fiddled while Roe burned.

If his videos didn't land as well the cops wouldn't have seemed like whiny babies quite so much. And he stayed on message in the courtroom, and his lawyer was clearly so much more prepared than the cops's lawyer

Some lesser discussed takeaways from the Afroman trial: - Surveillance turned on the government can have some benefits (but at what cost, literally and figuratively?) - If you're going to make fun of cops you have to be actually funny - It's worth having a good lawyer 🙃
