teams are **smart**, NBA a copycat league. This year we seeing exponential growth in 1) how many players on offense take adv of the refs, and 2) how many teams take adv of them on the glass/on defense. 16 teams this yr get >16% of their points from FTs. Last season it was 3 lol.

If you called every one of Shai’s push-offs he’d foul out before halftime of every game. Just like Lu Dort and Caruso defensively. But “They can’t call them all” is truly a championship ethos.

Very glad this was called and I hope it continues to get called more.
It’s becoming really common now and players are turning “bumps” into full on shoves lol. Brown and Pritchard come to mind also with the push offs

All the 16 times Shai Gilgeous-Alexander got fouled last night, in the 114-110 OT win against the Detroit Pistons.
SGA went 21/25 (84.0%) from the free throw line (+another miss, but ref stopped the game prior - did not count)
Including 4 fouls he committed (2 defensive fouls, two offensive), and one no call.
Overall SGA finished with 47 points on 12/19 FG (63.2%), 2/3 from 3, 21/25 FT (84.0%), alongside 5 Rebounds (2 Off. Rebs), 5 Assists (4 TOV), 2 Steals, 4 PF, and a +/- of +8 in 40:32 minutes played.

People are being so disingenuous on the SGA pushoff stuff lol.
The one that was called was called because he fully extended his arm with his hand on his shoulder, completely different to the shoulder bump he uses in the mid range.
People going “he does this every play” are either too stupid to differentiate or just whining in bad faith.

This is the #1 problem with the way the game is called now. SGA can use his arms to push the defender away, but as the defender tries to recover and reaches, he’s called for the foul. It’s a foul on SGA first but it’s (almost) never called vs. FTs on marginal contact.
