In the last decade, the media landscape has become unrecognizable. Independent magazines are endangered. But POW has weathered the storm and built a space for analog futurists, digital crate-diggers, and people who love and care deeply about music. We have no illusions about saving music journalism on our own, but with your help we can be part of the solution. Today, we're relaunching POW in its most fully realized form. Please consider a subscription. The letter below explains more. The next episode starts now. powmag.net/p/pow-mag-ente…

street teams were also largely real teens (me, hi) who loved fueled by ramen and mostly paramore. we were more analogous to private group chats labels/studios run with actual real life stans. we weren't fake teens having fake conversations and driving fake controversy.
jordan@jordansarge

it's understandable why this is all touching a nerve in the current day and age but this is basically the equivalent of someone in the 90s writing an exposé about how labels are paying groups called street teams to cover downtowns with posters promoting a band's new album

seeing people defend this is crazy because "burner accounts, comments, and whole ecosystems of interactions fabricated out of digital cloth" is usually just called "astroturfing" and considered to be bad (and probably a violation of some platform policies)

The Brooklyn band Geese was labeled an “industry plant” by those who questioned its sudden ubiquity. Maybe it was. wired.com/story/geese-ch…

@neeratanden i’ve voted, actively doorknocked for, fundraised platformed dems & progressive causes for the last decade and a half while they were working to oppose your agenda. the issue is you have more in common w them then you do w me. and that’s the problem you’re facing rn.

What a disgusting comment. Simply gross. One of my former students got a 3 year suspension. Another one had her head bashed into a truck by NYPD and ended up with a concussion. Columbia administration called NYPD to break up a nonviolent encampment and over 100 students were arrested with criminal trespass charges. They were all suspended. After being suspended, they were kicked out of their campus housing and were hpmeless. The night the cops raided Hind's Hall on campus, they had their guns drawn. At nonviolent students. So I have to ask - what the actual fuck is wrong with you??

The schools that had the most prevalent protests - including Columbia where I work - either suspended or expelled most of the students protesting Israel's genocide of Gaza. One of my former students has a 3 year (!!!) suspension. Then, the schools enacted rules making protest nearly impossible. And the very people who pressured the schools to do this are now saying "Where are all the protests?". Idiots.
The Bulwark@BulwarkOnline

As President Donald Trump’s unauthorized war on Iran with Israel entered into its second month, some Democratic officials were looking around and wondering: Where are the anti-war protests this time around? And why are college campuses so quiet? @Lauren_V_Egan takes a look.
