In 1978 Victoria Santa Cruz transformed rhythm into resistance and Blackness into pride. Through her iconic poem Me Gritaron "iNegra!", she turned a moment of racism into a declaration of self-worth that still resonates across the intersection of Hispanic and Black communities worldwide. At a time when Peru denied its Black population, Santa Cruz made Afro-Peruvian life visible through theater, dance, and rhythm, insisting that culture itself is a path to freedom and healing. The poem marks Santa Cruz's realization at age seven that her skin color carried social weight. In the original poem, the repetition of "Black!" This building was dug from the ground it stands on. The 32ยฐ East Arts Centre in Kampala is made from rammed earth and earth brick,both pressed from soil excavated on site. The timber used as formwork for the walls was reused as roof shingles. The sandstone came from 40km away. Nothing imported. Nothing wasted. Africa has the earth. Africa has the knowledge. The decision to use them is all that keeps being missing.
