i'll go on to add that awareness of the genre and medium of a story is just as important as textual analysis is when it comes to media literacy. you can't properly critique a work unless you understand the conventions it's inheriting and the mechanics of the medium

i think this is SO important and something that people new to the romance genre struggle to understand. as much as hockey realism is very much a thing in these books - the romance of it all does (and always will) supersede that. it’s a romance book first and foremost.

Every time the question about this comes up, I am compelled to point out that Rachel did not write HR with the intention of writing another hollanov book. Shane’s arc in HR is coming to terms with his sexuality and coming out to people who matter to him. His team mattered to him.
