Something I don't see discussed enough is when a pattern fails and how to read that.
You can have the cleanest bull flag on the chart, textbook structure, and it just breaks down. And in that moment most people either freeze or start rationalising why it should still work. But a failed pattern is actually one of the most useful pieces of information the market gives you, because it tells you that the expected participants didn't show up, and that itself is a signal.
If I'm watching an inverse H&S form and the right shoulder breaks below the head instead of bouncing, I don't just take the loss and move on. I ask myself what that means about the current dynamic. Usually it means the sellers are stronger than the structure suggested, and that failed setup often becomes the start of a move in the opposite direction that's worth paying attention to.
The same applies to failed breakouts. Price pushes above resistance, looks like it's going, and then immediately gets sold back below. That rejection tells you there's real supply at that level, and the next test of that level is likely to fail again unless something fundamentally changes.
I think learning to read failed patterns was one of the things that took me from decent to actually consistent. When I started trading I only knew what a pattern was supposed to do. It took a lot of screen time before I could read what it means when it doesn't do that, and that second level reading is honestly where most of the edge comes from.
