We are people who deeply care about these wild horses, we see them born and we see them die. We check on them every single day, they are like our family. We are sorry we were cu5sing on FB this morning, when little Cody went missing from his family band. We kindof already knew he was gone, because they just would have never left him. We were still hoping it wasn't so though, and we werent giving up until we found him, because it's still better to know than not to know. From this morning untill now, our team was out in the extreme Arizona temperatures, and many photographers and public helped as well. We had a cold water station at Coon Bluff for everyone. The endless vast terrain is hard to search, and people pushed to their limits on every trail, every horse hangout, hoping for a different outcome, but the angels wouldn't have it. We really could not be more sorry to have to tell you this: Sweet little Cody was found. Cached. That means the mountain lion got him and buried him in the sand. We are upset at this time and ask that you please forgive us for not responding for a while. For anyone who doesn't believe us, we can send you unpleasant pictures on request, but not now. We are worried about our volunteers and we are even worried about you, our dear followers, as we know these things are hard to learn about. It's a real loss, regardless if you had ever met him or not. We thank everyone who helped, so much. We thank everyone for standing by us, for caring, and for being supportive. Little Cody would have been 2 months old tomorrow. He was truly the most playful happy little colt with his zoomies every day. Run and Play Forever Free little Cody. Forever in our hearts. 💔🌈🐴 SRWHMG. Photo by SRWHMG Director Destini Rhone.

11 million views and 585k likes? If that doesn't tell you how people feel about Salt River wild horses, then we dont know anymore! These people found themselves in the horses normal river crossing spot and they were very calm and respectful, while capturing this great video of Stewart and Nirvana's bands.

😲 Did You Know? This is how fast foals (baby horses) can grow in just 7 weeks! 👶🐴 The first photo was taken on little Cody's very first day of life, born in the wild on the Salt River, Arizona, April 20, 2026. The second was taken on June 14, 2026. 📅 He isn't even 2 months old yet! (he will be in just 3 days). 👀Besides for the amazing growth and color change you can see, there's much more that you cannot see. In less than 8 short weeks, Cody has learned the ways of the wild👇 ️✅ ️🌿 He knows what to eat (eelgrass) and what to avoid (poisonous weeds). He knows how to be highly aware (when to run and when to play). He knows the hierarchy of every horse in his family band, (who he can mess with and who he can't). And he knows the rythm of the desert, with all of its creatures in it. 🌵🦊🦌🐗🐐🦨🦅🦎🐍🐝🕷🪰 ️✅ 📸 He has also become familiar with the funny creatures standing around with black clicking boxes pointed at him. He has learned not to be scared, but also knows how to keep a respectful distance! ️✅💪 He already has the strength to walk 5 miles a day, swim against very strong currents, and run as fast as the adults, over challenging rocky terrain, through trees with sharp branches and cacti everywhere. ️✅🩷In just 55 days of life, Cody has experienced things many horses never will: the sweetness of a loving big family, the joy of true freedom, and the beauty of a natural wild life, lived exactly as horses were meant to. ️✅☝️But it also isn't always easy. He has experienced trauma on his first day, of being stepped on and becoming seperated from his mom, (only to be reunited by SRWHMG). ‼️He has also; nearly drowned, battled annoying biting flies, endured a painful eye infection ( that is thankfully healing), and faced the relentless 110-degree Arizona desert heat.🌞 🐎Every day is a lesson. Every day is a wild adventure. Every day is precious. 🌏 ❤️ May he stay forever free, enjoyed and loved by Arizonans and people from around the world! Swipe to see the incredible transformation, and please like and share to give him your voice. ⚠️ Please always stay a respectful 50 ft from wild horses, for their safety, and yours. Thank you! Who in the world wouldn't want to experience a beautiful scene like this? 🌿✨🥰 A way of life that still exists right here in Arizona. We are so lucky to still have this natural treasure! It was so close to being gone in 2015 and it's absolutely imperative that we protect it for future generations. What makes this footage even more special? This was little Cody's very first time in the river! 💙 Captured by our volunteers, while we were closely monitoring his first two fragile weeks of life, these are moments few people ever get to witness. (Footage zoomed and cropped) Today, little Cody is almost 2 months old, thriving, and remains the only Salt River wild horse foal born in 2026 so far. We were shocked how many legislators actually did not know that fertility control works. But with just one foal, who can deny it? Take a moment, turn up the sound, and enjoy a glimpse of something truly worth protecting. 🐴🌊✨ SRWHMG #SaltRiverWildHorses #LittleCody #srwhmg #saltriverhorses #ProtectWildHorses #Arizona #ProtectWhatYouLove #WildAndFree #saltriverarizona

STOP — The future of the Salt River wild horses will be decided this Wed or Thursday! 🚨 Breaking! SB1199 passed the Arizona State House today with a supermajority. Now it still has to pass the AZ Senate, but the legislative session ends this Friday,(Sine Die), so there is very little time! This critical bill would place a 3-year moratorium on the planned removals of Salt River wild horses, giving the AZDA and scientists time to complete studies on the herd's genetic diversity, to determine whether a population target of 120 horses would risk eventual extinction. SB1199 also adds a critical protection that the current Salt River Horse Act does not provide: it prohibits Salt River wild horses from being sent to slaughter even after they are no longer officially classified as Salt River horses. The bill is basically asking Arizona to "hold our horses" for three years while the science is completed. Is that too much to ask to make doubly sure that future generations can still experience these iconic wild horses? Without passage of this bill within the next 2 days, 25 Salt River wild horses are scheduled to be removed this September, -by us, SRWHMG, -under our contract. And don't get us wrong, we will remove them, because we committed to it, and because they will be safe forever with us. 📢 But ofcourse we would rather not. So please call and email your Arizona State Senators immediately, and ask them uber-politely, to support and help pass SB1199!! See comnents on how. Please share this!! Every call, email, and share matters. Sincerely, SRWHMG #SaltRiverWildHorses #SB1199 #ProtectWildHorses #Arizona #WildAndFree #srwhmg #IStandWithWildHorses #saltriverwildhorses #saltriverarizona #saltriverhorses #saltriver

Give a hand to our Fire Abatement Crew! Wild horses perform fire abatement FOR FREE for the state of Arizona! Our area is under such extreme fire risk because of the huge amount of fire fuels, like tinder, combined with the huge amount of forest visitors, of which it takes only one dumb one! The wild horses keep all of us much safer by eating the dried weeds and brush, which reduces the risk of wildfires, and also, when a fire does start, it reduces the severity and the spread of it. FYI Last night's Phon D Fire was in an area where horses no longer live! Wild horse fire abatement is a REAL benefit saving the state of Arizona millions of Dollars. Fewer wild horses is less fire abatement and also less Salt River maintenance! (eelgrass eating) Let's let everyone know to give due recognition to the Salt River wild horses and wild horses everywhere! Thank you! SRWHMG.

Now this is one thing the U.S. Forest Service-Tonto National Forest excells at. We see them be on top of every fire in record time, before it gets out of control and burns down the beautiful lower Salt River area. Let us tell you that this is no easy area, these hotshots had to walk into this area 3/4 mile before they even got to the fire! No firetruck can get there. We heard them working hard with chainsaws etc. and it was nerve-wracking, but they did not give this fire a chance. However, because its smoldering and its very windy, they are still working to reduce further risk. Please thank the hotshots of the Tonto National Forest! Also please a thank you to our Road Patrol team, who are outthere day and night, who have called in many starting fires over the years, and have helped in countless people emergencies, many accidents and have found lost persons and even deceased persons etc etc. We are there mainly to keep horses safe ofcourse, but by being there when no one else is, we help keep people safe too! (no authorities are patrolling the area at all late at night) SRWHMG are the only ones outthere! And we will keep doing that, because we know we make a difference! P.S We call this area of Phon D, the Fantasy Island Meadow. Many horses used to live there, but it is not part of their habitat anymore now. Without horses, we saw this area become very overgrown, compared to when horses lived there. More about that later, because wild horse fire abatement is real!! #srwhmg #fireprevention #saltriverwildhorses #thankyou

Quantify these economic benefits of wild horse fire abatement 💪🐎👏 Post and video from May of 2024: Post: Quantifying the Economic Advantages of Wild Horse-Generated Fuel Reduction in the Tonto National Forest. (And listen to the satisfying munching sounds and whinnies of the horses!) Stage 1 fire restrictions are currently in order in the Tonto U.S. Forest Service-Tonto National Forest. Five human caused huge Brushfires have already burned over 20.000 acres all around and close to the habitat of the Salt River wild horses; the Forest Service has been doing an amazing job fighting those wilfires. Here is the beloved family band of Venus and baby Iris, and they are unwittingly hard at work. Does anyone have a guess as to the comparative monetary value of this fire fuel reduction? How much would it cost to weedwack 20.000 acres? And how much has it already cost fighting all the huge brushfires, not even 15 miles from this horse habitat? Let us be clear, we are not blazingly stating that there could never be a fire here, because all it takes is someone throwing out a cigarette. However, we are confidently saying that reducing dry tinder under trees, reduces both the risk as well as the severity of wildfires. This video, taken this 3rd week of May, is pretty hard to argue with, is it not? It is about time wild horses get some credit for the positive economic benefits they have on their habitat! If you agree, please help share everywhere, it's important. Please be safe and heed fire restrictions everyone! This was last night when our Road Patrol volunteers called in fire at Phon D. Hot Shots arrived quickly and did a great job. The fire was contained at 7.5 acres and Hotshots are leaving! Thank you! Salt River wild horses used to live in the Phon D area, but have not since the pipe fence was put up. There are a lot of dry firefuels there now, plus many heaps of dry cut-down salt cedar are still there. This is the same area where the 900 acre Cactus Fire was in 2017. This was a close call for sure, because it could have jumped to Coon Bluff. The Fire danger is extreme right now and we for one, are so glad the horses keep the area much safer by reducing wildfire risk by grazing down the dry firefuels! Thank you U.S. Forest Service-Tonto National Forest for containing this quickly. #saltriver #saltriverwildhorses #srwhmg

A huge THANK YOU to our friends at Signature Aviation in Scottsdale! We are incredibly grateful to Mariah and her amazing team for their ongoing support of the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group. They have been working hard in the Arizona heat to help make our property and our wild rescues safer through important fire-abatement efforts. When their schedules allow, they show up with tools, smiles, and a willingness to work. Together they have removed dried grasses, underbrush, and dead tree limbs that could become dangerous fuel during fire season. A fire in this area could quickly spread toward the nearby Tonto National Forest, making this work especially important. While the snakes have thankfully stayed away, the team has certainly battled cactus pricks, sweat, and sore muscles along the way. Their dedication, generosity, and community spirit mean so much to all of us. Please join us in giving a big thank you to Mariah and everyone at Signature Aviation for helping protect our wild rescues, our property, and the beautiful environment we all cherish. Leave a ❤️ or a comment below to show your appreciation for the hard work. signatureaviation.com facebook.com/signaturefbo ❤️🐴🔥 #ThankYou #CommunityPartners #SRWHMG #SaltRiverWildHorses #WildHorseHeroes #FirePrevention #ScottsdaleAZ #IStandWithWildHorses #SignatureAviation

Our busy summer season has arrived, and unfortunately, so has 🔥wildfire season. Several small fires have already been reported along the river. Fortunately, they were detected and contained quickly! As you enjoy outdoor activities this summer, please recreate responsibly and follow all fire restrictions. Remember: it only takes one spark to start a wildfire. Due to increasing fire danger across Arizona, the Tonto National Forest has implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions and Recreational Shooting Restrictions throughout the entire forest, effective May 15, 2026. For complete information about current restrictions and permitted activities, please visit the Tonto National Forest website. Thank you for helping protect our forests, communities, and natural resources. #srwhmg #saltriverhorses

YES we call them haters, because: 🤔They've never posted or stated one positive thing about us. (Thats a statistical impossibility) 🤔 They have never reached out with an honest question. ( even when we've invited them to ask any question they want) 🤔 When we do A, they argue for Z and vice versa, so we are always the bad guys. 🤔They purposely spread misinformation and try to get good hearted people upset, for no reason. 🤔 They say really awful things about hard working selfless people with the best intentions on earth. 🤔 They have never lifted one finger to help and even worse, purposely discourage donations, which hinders our important work. 🤔They post one time snapshots, and tell people that things are always like that. (For example they say horses are always in the same area) 🤔They absolutely know the real truth, they know the reasons we have to do things, they know the restrictions we have, and they know our love for the horses; yet they twist and turn things purposely for their own selfish daily attention grab. 👉That is not fair concern, it is not reasonable questioning, its hate and obsession, and they are addicted to stomping on our hard earned accomplishments, so that they themselves feel more relevant, while sitting at home doing nothing. Be careful not to fall for it. 👉Their hate comes from deep jealousy and fear of being irrelevant. If they had a little bit more kindness in their hearts, we'd maybe involve them more. But with each hateful thing they do, with each truth they lie about, each picture they stalk us to take, each good they twist into bad, they become more and more,... irrelevant. ✅️We are tired of turning the other cheek, and have to defend ourselves and our cause now. We've never done that before, so they'll turn it around and claim next, that we are the ones attacking. (Wait for it... ) But they should cease their blatant fabrications and defamation and note that we will be defending the actual truth from now on. But because we do not believe in negativity on this page, we will make a special page for it, plus we will discuss it with our attorneys. ✅️Please never hesitate to ask us honest questions, we always answer them. We strive for humanity in everything we do. Please help us give the haters some pushback on their vitriol when u see it come up in your feed. Beware it can be disguised as "honest questions", so just invite them to message us, in case they really want to know. Thank You so much, for all the support. Doers will keep doing, while talkers will keep talking. SRWHMG.

With the arrival of the river’s newest foal, Cody, our not-so-little-anymore Moonfire🌙🔥 hasn’t been stealing quite as much spotlight on our Advocates Facebook page lately, so we figured it was time for a proper update! Moonfire will be7️⃣months old in just a few days (May 29th), and he is doing great! Somehow, this once tiny foal has turned into a handsome young colt practically overnight. He’s growing like a weed, eating like it’s his full-time job, and definitely knows he’s good-looking. What’s even more special is how much he resembles his dad, Garrett — not just in looks, but in the way he moves too. Watching him trot around with all that confidence, 🐴it’s pretty clear he inherited both Garrett’s style and swagger. We continue to love❤️ watching this sweet boy grow up, even if he’s making us realize just how fast the time flies! Photo credit: Erik Vaughan #srwhmg #saltriverwildhorses

😂🌊🐎 When you’re having a WILD Memorial Day weekend… …and the WILD horses are literally all around you, hiding in the bushes, patiently waiting until the chaos is over. 👀 We get a lot of comments about the amount of people on the river, disturbing the horses and if we can't do anything about it. No, we cannot, these are public lands. There is no limit to the amount of people, and it's never going to get quieter. But what we can do, is ask people respectfully and politely to please give these horses at least 50 ft space, and disturb them as least as possible. There is a bill in the Arizona state legislature right now that would make that distance law. It's for their protection, and also for yours. We have volunteers checking to make sure horses are safe this weekend. Thats how we made this video. We hope everyone stays safe this memorial day weekend. Stay cool, and be cool to wild horses! Thank You! SRWHMG #saltriverwildhorses #saltriverhorses #saltriverarizona #IStandWithWildHorses #wildhorses #managethemhumanely #srwhmg

FOAL Friday is HERE! … and it’s TIME to NAME our newest Salt River WILD HORSE ✨🐴 This stunningly beautiful little guy is doing amazing, really growing into himself in the wild. (He has completely recovered from his ambilicus trauma.) He was Born: April 20 2026 Out of Mare: Venus (Athena x Sarge) By Sire: Orion (Three Socks x Moon) Extra protectors: his big Sister Iris, lieutenant stallion Thorne, and Grandma Athena. First—thank you for your huge response. 🙏 We received so many incredible name suggestions for this first Salt River foal of the year! Every single one was read and appreciated! We removed names already in use within the Salt River wild horses (like Eclipse, Orion, Aries, Butterscotch, Carmel, Zeus, Neptune etc.), and then picked our 3 final favorites, each chosen for a different reason: 1️⃣ ATLAS — strong lead stallion name, and he'll carry the future of the Salt River wild horses on his shoulders. 🌎 2️⃣ CODY — it's a tradition to name the first foal of the year after an honorary person, and representative Cody Reim truly cares about the future of this herd, taking action through his Salt River Horse Bill, SB1199. 🤎 3️⃣ JUPITER— a great fit with the planetary/themes of his bloodlines, like his great-grandfather Moon, father Orion and mother Venus. 🌙✨ Now it’s YOUR turn! 🗳️👇 👉 First please love this post ❤️ 👉 Then from these three names, comment the name you love the most, and the number to make counting easier. 👉 One name per comment please, and NO new name suggestions, that time was last week. 👉 Feel free to share why you chose it—we love reading your thoughts. 👉Voting is open NOW and closes tomorrow, Saturday May 16th at 5 pm; no names will be counted after that. 👉Your vote will count double with any donation, see info below. 👉His official Name will be announced this Sunday, May 17th, 6 pm! 👉 Please share this post! As many of you know, this little guy wouldn’t have survived without our field team springing into action, he almost didn't make it when he got stepped on and lost his band! 💛 Good thing we are out there every day protecting and monitoring the Salt River wild horses! If you’d like to support our important work with your vote, we'd appreciate it so much. Here are the ways: Zelle: 6023963978 Venmo : Srwhmg.cfo@gmail.com PayPal: SaltRiverHerd@respect4horses.com Or directly through our website: SRWHMG.ORG Every donation for him, will go toward fuel for our trucks, which has become incredibly expensive, directly increasing our costs! 🚙⛽️ It can be small or big, every donation goes a loong way in keeping our team in the field — and as a thank you, it will double your vote in the final count!!!! 🙌🐴 We’ll tally everything by tomorrow, Saturday 5 pm, and we will announce his official name this Sunday! ! ✨ We are so excited! READY, SET, VOTE! Thank you! SRWHMG 📷This great picture of our beautiful boy is by Greg Ness.
