💬: jay tell us about your trainee days
🐈⬛: first of all i joined BH music in june 2016 i think that’s right… june 2016 was when i first joined. as soon as i got in i didn't exactlyy rise smoothly using my “genius talent” and all these natural abilities. i couldn't and for about 1–2 years i just worked hard without even really knowing what i was doing, just digging away
🐈⬛: then as i kept working hard, honestly there wasn’t really any plan or anything amazing. i was just doing what was given to me without really having big expectations. but as i kept going, i started to see some possibility and once i saw that i worked even harder toward it. then little by little i started to feel like maybe i could debut
🐈⬛: while holding onto that hope i kept working hard and eventually it really felt like i might debut and then after debuting i kept working hard again… and slowly started getting some response from the public. seeing that i worked even harder and somehow before i knew it, enha became what it is today
🐈⬛: honestly i think it’s better not to overthink things. like if i don’t do it, then what? this is my path, my situation right now. if i don’t work hard what else am i going to do? so i just work hard. i just do what’s given and depending on the situation, i keep adjusting and working hard acordingly. if you keep doing that, things eventually work out
🐈⬛: i think worrying like “what if this fails?” or “what if this doesn’t work?” is just a waste of energy i don’t think you need to perfectly build everything step by step. i’ve been in this company for almost 10 years now through trainee days and after debut, experiencing both life and the industry and as someone who’s lived through that, i don’t think everything has to be perfectly built
🐈⬛: if the goal is the finish line it’s okay even if your path is messy or uneven. what matters is that you keep building. if you try to do everything perfectly and carefully step by step, it’s unrealistic. no one has that kind of time and it would take 300 or 400 years to reach your goal that way
🐈⬛: in the end the people who reach their dreams first aren’t the ones who overthink everything. they’re the ones who just do their best in any situation without unnecessary worry
🐈⬛: so for me if i try my best and still fail then i will think about it when it happens. you can fail even if you work hard but i’ve never heard of someone succeeding without trying. honestly life doesn’t give you that many choices and so instead of overthinking, i just faced things head on and doing that, time passed and before i knew it, i got here. that’s how it feels. like i always say i’m not someone extraordinary or some kind of genius born to be a singer.. i just always did my best, my mindset happened to fit my life well and i was lucky.

💬 제이 연생 때 얘기 좀 해줘 ㄴ 일단 나는 2016년 6월에 빅히트뮤직에 입사를 했어. 아마 2016년도 맞을거야... 2016년도 6월에 빅히트에 첫 입사를 했어. 들어가자마자 나의 천재적인 이 재능과, 이 타고난 탤런트들을 사용하면서 승승장구를 하지 못하고 (ㅋㅋ) 결국 하지 못하였고 한 1년에서 2년 동안은 이제 열심히 내가 뭘 하고 있는지도 모르는 채 땅을 팠지. 그리고 이제 열심히 또 하다 보니까~ 사실상 아무 계획이라고 할 만한 것도 없었고, 아무런 대단한 것도 없었고 솔직히. 뭐 그냥... 그냥 그냥~ 현재 주어진 거에 열심히 하면서 별 기대를 품고 하지도 않았어 딱히. 그냥 하다 보니까 열심히 하다 보니까 어느새 뭔가 가능성이 보이기 시작하고, 가능성이 보이면서 또 거기에서 그거에 또 맞게 열심히 하다 보니까 어느새 뭔가 데뷔할 것 같은 희망이 조금씩 보이기 시작하고, 희망이 보이는 상태에서 또 열심히 하고 하다 보니까~ 어느새 데뷔할 것 같았고. 그리고 나서 데뷔 하니까 또 열심히 하다 보니까... 이제 대중에게서 반응이 좀 오기 시작했고. 또 그거 보고 열심히 하다 보니까 뭐 얼떨결에 엔하이픈이 지금 이렇게 됐지? 그냥 사실상 뭔가 이렇게 복잡하게 생각을 안 하는게 난 좋은 것 같애. 난 살면서 그냥 아니 안하면 뭐 어쩔건데 내가? 내가 뭐 이걸 해야 되는 거고 나는 지금 내 운명이 이렇게 돌아가고 있는데 내가 이걸 열심히 안 하면 난 뭐 어떡할건데? 그냥 열심히 하는거지 당연히! 그냥 하고, 주어진 대로 하고. 상황이 딱 이렇게 정해져 있으면 상황 보면서 또 그거에 맞게 또 열심히 하고. 또 저렇게 맞게 또 열심히 하고 하다 보면은 되는 거야 그냥~ 별... 이렇게 뭔가 ‘아 이게 아니면 어떡하지? 이게 실패하면 어떡하지? 이렇게 하면 이게 잘 될까, 과연 성공할까?’ 이거에 대한 고민하는 시간이 난 그냥 너무 큰 자원의 낭비라고 생각해서. 굳이 이렇게 딱 각을 맞춰서 정확하게 이렇게 하나하나를 완벽하게 쌓아 올릴 필요가 없는 것 같애 나는. 그냥... 내가 연습생 생활도 길게 하고 데뷔 생활 하면서 총 합쳐서 진짜 한 10년 가까이 이 회사에서 지금 연예계라는 거를 경험하고 있는 사람, 내 인생이라는 걸 내 사회 생활이라는 걸 경험하고 있는 사람으로서, 사회인으로서. 그래서 이렇게 딱! 완벽하게 이렇게 쌓아갈 필요가 없는 것 같애. 여기가 결승선이라고 하면은 그냥 막... 이상하게 이렇게 삐뚤빼뚤 이렇게 해도 괜찮아. 쌓는게 중요한 거지! 이게 사람이 완벽하게 하나하나를 신중하게... 너무 신중하게 완벽하게 해서 넘어가려고 하면은 그거는 터무니 없는, 사람의 수명으로 내가 봤을 때 감당이 가능한 그게 아니야. 그거 다 그렇게 완벽하게 해가지고 결국에 내가 원하는 목표까지 가려면은 300년, 400년은 걸려. 그걸 어떻게 하니? 근데 그냥 결국에는 먼저 도달하고 먼저 자기 꿈의 현실을 눈에 볼 수 있는 사람들은 결국에는 신중하게 하나하나 해왔던 사람들이 아니라, 그냥 어떤 상황에서든 불필요한 고민 없이 최선을 다 해 왔던 사람들인 것 같애. 그래서... 나도 그냥 열심히 해서 그게 내 생각대로 안 맞고, 실패하고, 지고 하면은 뭐 그때 가서 생각하면 되는거야. 열심히 해도 실패할 순 있는데, 열심히 안 하고 성공한다는 말은 난 살면서 들어본 적이 없어. 뭐 어차피 그냥 우리 인간의 삶이란 생각보다 그렇게 선택지가 많이 없어서~ 그냥 그런 고민할 시간에... 난 그냥 부딪쳤던 것 같애. 그래서 그냥 그렇게 세월을 흘리다 보니까 어느새 여기까지 왔네? 그런 느낌. 늘 말했다시피 난 별 대단한 사람도 아니고, 뭐 그렇게 천재적인 gift를 얹고 가수가 되기 위해서 태어난 황금알같은 사람이 아니기 때문에. 그냥 항상 최선을 다 하고, 내 마인드가 지금 내 인생에 잘 맞아 떨어졌던 것 같고, 운이 좋았던 거지 그냥. 운도 실력이고 노력도 실력이다라는 게 제 생각입니다.

🐈⬛: it’s really hard to recall anything beyond that
🐈⬛: it’s okay, i’ve just been really busy until now, so it feels like i paused it for a bit
🐈⬛: i’ll restart my youth in my 30s
🐈⬛: maybe i’ll wear a mask and do busking
🐈⬛: that’s real youth, right
🐈⬛: i’m planning to stay healthy and be a singer until 70~ so don’t get it wrong
🐈⬛: i could even busk while being in enhypen
🐈⬛: if i wear a mask, it’s all the same anyway
🐈⬛: even then, while doing dome/stadium-level world tours, i want to quietly busk in between wearing a mask, singing unreleased songs i’ve worked on
