I’m still recovering from our AMAZING squid dissection yesterday! Both blocks did a phenomenal job. Our squid were rather fresh samples so we were able to see anatomy we had not seen in the past. Very exciting for all of us! @TheBurgScience
Memphis Zoo announces the bittersweet farewell of our beloved bonobos, Lily and Mpingo, Mobali, Laney, Kiri, and Lisala, as they prepare for an exciting new chapter in their lives at other institutions. The first pair, Lily and Mpingo, departed to Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden on August 29th, with the remaining bonobos to follow.

On a cool, August evening, surrounded by those who loved her most, Meeka, our beloved wolf, was humanely euthanized after a health decline. At 15 ½ years old, Meeka was the last of the original pack that first welcomed visitors to Teton Trek. With an average lifespan of 7-10 years, Meeka’s extraordinary longevity speaks to the exceptional geriatric care provided by her dedicated veterinary and care team. We will deeply miss her charming underbite and spirited determination to keep the younger wolves out of her yard, even if it meant refusing to come inside. Meeka was a sweet and strong-willed wolf who cherished her interactions with people, making them earn her trust and cooperation. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts.🐾
Food results - partially cooked cookies (they are best like that anyway tho, right?), melted but stale nachos, and a personal pizza that actually cooked pretty well! The pizza box oven with the glass cover cooked the best. @TheBurgScience
Cooking in our solar ovens - the wind and cloud cover affected our results a bit but we still made some great observations and enjoyed the day outside #earthscience@TheBurgScience
Currently learning about alternate energy sources so we are building our own simple solar ovens. Hopefully the weather cooperates tomorrow so we can give them a go! #earthscience@TheBurgScience
