Now that we’ve all had a few days to process the hype surrounding the proposed 650,000 bbl/d refinery in East Africa 🇰🇪 🇺🇬 🇹🇿, let’s take a long, hard look in the mirror. [1] Funding Gap: Where will Kenya 🇰🇪, Uganda 🇺🇬, and Tanzania 🇹🇿 raise the ~ $20 billion needed to build this facility when they already spend more on debt servicing than on healthcare or education? Just as critical - can they raise that capital, cheaply? [2] Diplomacy Deficit: Relations between these three countries are prickly on most days. Can nations that block agricultural imports, incinerate day-old chicks and limit the reach of each other’s airlines really cooperate on a project of this magnitude? [3] Successor Risk: With potential changes in government in Kenya 🇰🇪 (2027) and Uganda 🇺🇬 (2031), will the successors of William Ruto and Yoweri Museveni prioritize regional interests over national ones? “When @AlikoDangote built his refinery in Nigeria, he was essentially dealing with one country,” says @wangarikebuchi, Founder & MD at @ExpertiseGL . Given the clashing interests involved here, she warns that “discussions are going to be much more intense than what was faced in Nigeria.” What trade-offs are East African policymakers willing to accept? Do they have the policy discipline to execute this without wasting billions in taxpayer dollars, as they have in other, smaller infrastructure projects?

I still insist.. Why didn’t Bruno make the pass to Mbeumo instead?? He was very clear and would have scored as well. It would have been a big booster for him. Look how isolated Mbeumo has become lately. A shadow of himself! Mbeumo cannot end the season feeling this way please.

@Alvin144607 @Highest_Favor So what's the purpose of schooling if not teaching kids about realities of life? There is nothing you are protecting by creating delusional people.

Went to a good school and there was a boy who joined probably bc his parents supplied something to the school. We could always tell by his wearing the same shirt I think 3x a week (we marked it with pens) His parents were trying to give him the best but we could tell…

Lemme explain to you like you're sakaja. Think of the network like a water pipe or a road, zile tu za Nairobi. When you were at Nyayo National Stadium watching AFC Leopards vs Gor Mahia, this is what was happening Dj; 1. Too many people, one small “pipe” kama ile siku ya maandamano. The mobile network (Safaricom, Airtel) is like a single pipe carrying water. Inside the stadium, thousands of people are all trying to: send WhatsApp messages upload videos and check scores The pipe gets full (congested) so internet stops working, remember the flood day in Nairobi? 2. Calls and SMS still sometimes work Calls and SMS use very little space in the pipe compared to internet sababu ni few people using the service. Nikama mkojo inaeza seep lakini mafi ibaki yuu. An that’s why you might still manage a call or a text. 3. Why media houses still work hata azam hu stream na kina Njiru huweka live updates Media houses don’t rely on the same crowded “pipe” as poor ?. you. They usually have Eitheer Special network priority (VIP lanes) from telecom companies or dedicated equipment (satellite links, private internet lines) and sometimes even their own mobile towers or boosters at the stadium btw. This is t’s like they have a private road kama expressway, while everyone else is stuck in traffic hapo mwombasa road 4. Stadium problem specifically. Kumbika Networks are designed for normal daily use, not sudden crowds vile you do. On match day, the number of users becomes 50 times higher than usual So the system gets overwhelmed very fast. Sasa halo sometimes Safaricom hukasirika and brings in something called a COW (Cell on Wheels). Kama ile ya Safari rally It’s basically a mobile network tower on a truck ( @mumiasfinest please attach some pictures for this.) For persons like Njiru and teya na media teams who need live updates, mostly wako admins elsewhere na they call them for written updates, and the their photographers wako connected na portal mifi tu submit the media pics asap. Ukielewa basi niekee 50 bob za bangi.
DJ@djeduhmaks

Can we talk about why there's always low to almost no network for both Saf and Airtel at Nyayo Stadium for most of us? But I normally see the media people posting in real time.

@MaryK2022 @blindrewind I've been in SA, lived there and interacted with them for a while, I'll be very straight with you. Majority Black South Africans are lazy and extremely entitled. Land is not even an issue there, there's vast unused arable land but they don't want that coz it involves work.

@Alvin144607 @Highest_Favor I actually have seen that, kids wearing uniform at home, that's coz they are expensive and parents can't afford other clothes because "uniform is important and compulsory". You don't think they know they are poor and in your thinking uniform gives them the delusion of equity?

@syghmo @Highest_Favor You've not met kids whose best clothes are the uniforms they wear to school, and teachers advise parents to ensure they change to home clothes so that they don't wear out. Also as young as kids in class 4 hold class meetings and address these issues effectively

In Garissa Town, there are reports of brewing violence targeting people perceived as Nywele ngumu. A few rogue individuals have allegedly been attacking and in some cases, killing non-Somalis. In an area known as Bula Medina, a woman identified mkamba was reportedly attacked, raped, and stabbed. Her husband, together with neighbors who attempted to assist her, were also assaulted and are currently recuperating at Garissa Referral Hospital. These attacks against non-Muslims have reportedly been ongoing for some time, with some individuals even using social media to incite others, telling non-Muslims to return to their ancestral homes based on the belief that Garissa belongs exclusively to somalis. The picture below shows the County Commissioner visiting the victims. He is also said to be among those being targeted by the same rogue elements, who claim they do not want non-Somali commissioners, police officers, or OCS personnel in their areas. But my question is, are these people ready for nywele ngumu retaliation if we decide to go that route. Somalis are good people, but you see these imbeciles that came from Somali & issued with IDs illegally, they're terrorists & we are very ready for them. If this nonsense doesn't stop, very soon Kenya might turn into South Africa. Chesaa!!

My take: The govt let this rally happen (an atrocious thing to say, because freedom of movement should be guaranteed, which it isn't) to gauge how popular Linda Mwananchi is in the Lake region. Optics matter, and this can't be brushed off, whatever 'paid' spin you put on it. Ruto is interested in the popular vote. Doesn't matter to him who holds the cards. What matters is whether the cardholder can bring the votes to his stable. There is no Bible that says Luo votes must go to Ruto via Oburu's camp. That is key. And after Raila, there is no guarantee that any of his survivors can whip all of Luo Nyanza to one poll bucket. Which is why the pro-zoning team is desperate to lock out interested parties from "ODM zones", whatever that means. I am not buying the idea that this region will vote itself out of government after years of marginalisation, unless the next vote guarantees 'pawa'. ODM may yet vote for Ruto; the question is, which ODM? If someone else can influence the people outside of the status quo one way or another, for Ruto or elsewhere - and signs are there that there are a few- a lot of 'big' Luo Nyanza heads will roll in 2027. Yote tisa, kumi ni, uko kadi?
Prof. Alfred Omenya@aomenya

BTW, sisi wa broad based hata hatujasikia vibaya. Lakini hawa vijana wa boda walituuza! Walikula pesa wakahepa. Omolo naye alikataa kuleta teargas. Polisi wanaangalia tu na tuko kwa sirikali. Tutatuma report kwa Ruto. Tunataka zoning. Tunataka pawa.
