Mobile, PC, or console? This decision kills more games than bad art or bad code. Donโ€™t start with "where should we launch?" Ask the real questions first: - Whoโ€™s the audience? - How much scope can the team support? - How does the game make money? - What hardware limits are acceptable? - How will players discover it? Choose the platform that fits the concept, team, and constraints. Not the other way around. โฌ‡๏ธ redappletechnologies.medium.com/mobile-vs-consโ€ฆ

Japan is showing the same signal we're seeing everywhere else. Indies are winning attention, not because they're big, but because they're different. Tools are lowering the barrier, creativity is becoming the edge. Feels like weโ€™re moving back to games being about ideas first. japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/12/0โ€ฆ

AI levels the playing field in game development giving indies and larger studios access to tools that used to be out of reach. Smaller teams, faster iteration, better games. The gap is closing. ๐Ÿš€๐ŸŽฎ Ft. @_DiogoAbreu @WesselSmeekes @The_GodGiven @IAMRodOliveira Full episode ๐Ÿ‘‡ YT: youtube.com/watch?v=VqQHFsโ€ฆ Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/5k6tZoโ€ฆ

When a game doesnโ€™t have to be built from the ground up purely to extract value, itโ€™s incredibly freeing. The moment you no longer need to justify every mechanic through a monetization lens, the whole creative process opens up. Systems can exist simply because theyโ€™re fun, not because they boost engagement metrics or push players toward a store. F2P always comes with baggage.

Swedish developer Embark Studios has said that moving away from free-to-play in favour of a premium business model made the games "drastically easier" to design in some ways gamesindustry.biz/embark-says-moโ€ฆ

Clair Obscur: @Expedition33 just won 9 awards last night at @TheGameAwards. ๐Ÿคฏ A record. 33 weeks after launch. We live in a simulation. Under $10M budget. $50 price point. 5M+ copies sold. Most nominated and most awarded game at TGA. Ever. No bloated production. No endless development cycles. Just a clear identity, confident vision, and respect for the player. Indies and AA arent "punching above their weight". They are the weight now. The old model isn't collapsing by accident. This is the new normal.
