In the past week, @TNDeptofHealth says 1,341 school-aged children (5 to 18) have tested positive for COVID-19 in Knox County. Despite this, @KnoxSchools says the district only has 331 active cases. It's not clear how this is possible. @WBIR

More kids are showing up to class in Knox County Schools. Yesterday: 15.1% of students were absent Today: 14.7% were absent. That’s still a lot of kids out of class—1 in every 7 absent—but a slight improvement. We still don’t have data from August 31.

Just how bad is the COVID situation in Knox County Schools? Reviewed the numbers. In Jan 2020 before COVID, the district closed for illness. The day before that closure, student absence was 8.4%. Staff absences numbered 595, per KCS. On Friday, 15.7% kids & 661 staff were out.
