With great sadness we announce that our esteemed colleague and friend Johann Zmeskal passed away on Tuesday, July 23rd after a short, serious illness. He was a central figure at our institute until his last day and had a decisive influence on the experimental activities at SMI.

This picture was actually taken in our cleanroom at @HEPHY3 of @oeaw . The silicon strip sensors we initially designed are now being tested, before they are gonna assembled into modules and larger structures.

This week I visited the @essneutron in Lund (Sweden). A similar facility was planned in Austria 30 years ago under the name AUSTRON. Most of it was never realized, except for the small medical part, which is now the ion therapy center #MedAustron.
