A thread on call signs, starting with mine. People started calling me “Tex” and “Cowboy” while I was still in Aviation Officer Candidate School. I was from Texas, and I’d done a bit of ranch work and rodeo, but I think it was primarily because of my very noticeable drawl. Cowboy stuck, and I never did anything dumb enough to earn another one. Decades later and I’m pretty sure a lot of guys I flew with still don’t know my first name🤠

Disagree. Heat pumps are very efficient when used correctly and will outperform fossil fuel on a whole life cost. The issue is getting your property ready for low grade heat by insulating well and ensuring you have sufficient surface area for effective heat transfer. Replaced my failing gas boiler before last winter with a heat pump and changed to an EV tariff - net result £1200 refund from Octopus after 10 months of operation. Same instal cost as new gas before you take the grant…..

@davidflatman 2 of 2. Also, the school our kids both go to subsidises a large number of places and offers completely free places every year to children from less fortunate backgrounds. There should be a Social Value threshold for VAT exemption as per major government procurement rules

VAT on private school fees: Is there anyone whose kids go to private school who welcome the idea? Is there anyone whose kids don’t, who think it’s a bad idea? So far I’ve only met “it’s a joke” paying parents and “quite right too” non-payers. Peaceful answers only please.
