England is now the only country in Europe that doesn't financially support its farmers to produce food. Surely Trump's conflict in the Middle East and Putin's invasion of Ukraine show how utterly vital our food security is? The Government needs to wake up and back our farmers.

@QuakerHat_ My concern as a liberal is not to allow my desire for my autonomy to crush others. My bias is towards the vulnerable and towards those who would inevitably - because it’s happened *everywhere* else where AD is legal - lose their lives to coercion.

@timfarron That impact being the choice to safely end one’s life when you have less than 6 months to live and have no quality of life whilst living in endless pain. It seems what you weigh most heavily are your own biases with very little consideration for the people actually affected.

I’m grateful for all those MSPs who voted down the assisted dying bill. No legislation of this sort can ever safeguard the vulnerable, to protect against coercive control or self coercion. Autonomy for those with agency would always entail the worst for the many without it.

@sergio75035352 Well, those with agency have always sought to trample on the vulnerable, so perhaps you are right.

@QuakerHat_ I get why libertarians would want autonomy regardless of its impact on others, but not liberals who have the harder job of weighing up the impact of me having my rights leading to you losing yours. It’s JSMill 101 really. Forgive me, but I don’t think it’s me who’s confused…

Justice delayed is justice denied. Rather than introducing appalling plans to reduce access to jury trials, the Government should be increasing capacity in our courts so that the victims of crime aren't forced to put their lives on hold. My question to the Justice Secretary 👇

The beautiful village of Coniston in the Lake District has had a GP practice for the last 200 years - but the future of that vital health service is now at urgent risk. Grateful that the Health Minister has agreed to meet with me to discuss how we can save Coniston GP surgery.

Many people across rural Britain who use heating oil are being hammered with price rises. I've tabled a motion in Parliament that calls for an immediate three-month VAT holiday on heating oil and the introduction of a proper price cap. My interview with the BBC 👇

As a member of the bill committee I shared serious concerns about this bill being unsafe & deeply flawed. The House of Lords will fix it said many, convincing MP’s to let it pass. Well The ‘House of Lords’ didn’t fix it! The Assisted Dying Bill is not safe and remains deeply flawed!
