The Amish have been producing raw milk, on the same family farms, from the same breeds of cow, for approximately three hundred years. No artificial insemination. No hormones. No industrial feed. No antibiotic prophylaxis. The cows eat grass in summer and hay in winter. The milk is in your hand within hours of leaving the cow. Amish children, by the epidemiological research of the University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins, have substantially lower rates of asthma, eczema, food allergies, and autoimmune disease than the broader American population. Raw milk is illegal to sell across state lines. It is illegal to sell retail in most states. The FDA has raided Amish dairies in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, armed, seized the milk, destroyed equipment, and prosecuted the farmers. The enforcement is presented as consumer protection. The raw milk the FDA is protecting Americans from has a lower documented illness rate than the spinach aisle at any given American supermarket, which has produced multiple national E. coli outbreaks in the last twenty years with no armed federal raids on spinach farms. A community of religious traditionalists, farming by hand, producing food the way Americans produced food for three hundred years, is being criminalised for continuing to do so. The consumer is being protected from the option of buying food her great-grandmother considered normal.

Today is one of those days. I woke up grateful for another day above the dirt but to be honest, I’m angry and frustrated. It’s 2026 yet our society, at times, feels like a throwback to the dark ages. When I need to escape the depravity, there is no pill or swill that will work to lift the heaviness; just my keys to freedom. Everything on the farm has been fed, watered, and free to roam their pastures grazing on grass or foraging for the wiggly jewels the land gives up after a gentle rain. I need to hear the hypnotic hum of the tires on the smooth backroads. No radio, phone, electronics; just the songs of the wild birds, the sweet aroma of Confederate Jasmine swirling in the open windows, the warmth of the sun on my face. Along the twists and turns of these country roads, I’ll occasionally open her up and feel the power. It’s invigorating, it’s walking that fine line between civility and chaos. It’s cathartic, like cleaning out all the anger and frustration, leaving me with a clean canvas for the brushstrokes of the scenery, my mind to paint. I’m gifting myself time to meander through small towns, no gps or directions, just random surprises of the unknown around each bend. Life is short, make the time to refresh and recharge…….

@Batenswytch We recently built the house, I got to design my entire kitchen 👍💪👏. Husband built it all with our own lumber. He got a big saw mill out for it.

@toooldforfears That's a lovely pantry! Not sharing pictures of the coat closet that became a 'pantry' as well. It's where the jars, distilled water, vinegar, crock pot, stuff like that belong... with a broom/mop holder on the inside of the door. It ain't pretty but it works.

This is why we installed old stock oak cabinets, uppers and lowers, and used butcher block as the countertop. Also handy for large jars of dry goods, or y'know. Strawberry wine cooking off.

@FAFOFarmsTX @RelocatedYeti The government loves taxes, 'permit' is another word for it. KY is still reasonable. All one need is a septic permit to hook up (yes) electricity. The house does not require any permit. This is county, city might be different.

What's crazy is if I wanted to build a house with my neighbors superior 2x4s we'd never be able to get the it permitted. Instead I'd have to get whatever it is that's posing as a 2x4 that Lowes & Home Depot sell. 🪵

Hubby just left to get our daughter. Fire has shifted and is heading in her direction. My uncle is in charge of Auntie M and my mom. He also has a few more elderly people in his care.. they are preparing to be ready to go if necessary.. They will be heading to a hotel in Glynn County.

I am home. I have gotten all my critters back where they belong. I am crying happy tears. They are fairly stressed. Poor little Nicki has some scours. I will be keeping a close eye on her. Pigs are all good. Very tired!! I can not express how thankful I am for everyone's prayers. This could have gone an entirely different direction. The fire is not contained as yet. I left my daughter at my mom's. Hubby and I are hanging here. I truly believe that we are going to be fine! Again thank you all!! ❤️
