@MickJ75671751 @KosSamaras It's about how AI is used & what for. Big problem in Oz is we just throw people on the scrapheap & they're on their own. If workers made redundant due to technology got decent income support (as opposed to Jobseeker) & re-training there wouldn't be so much fear of change. #auspol

@KosSamaras Australia missing out due to our high cost, low productivity environment. AI & robotics might solve some of our coat & productivity issues and reduce the need to import labor. If we legislate AI out we’re guaranteed to be an economic backwater.

AI RedBridge and Accent research published in today’s Australian Financial Review. Over 70% of Australians believe AI will cost jobs. Governments and employers should take note, they’ve seen this movie before, and it doesn’t end well. The millions of jobs hollowed out by globalisation can now be counted at the ballot box. One Nation. Reform. Trump. The parties that stood aside or actively championed those changes are either gone or diminished. The social licence was never built. The guardrails were never built and hence, the reckoning arrived. It took a while but here we are. AI is moving faster and cutting deeper into public consciousness than anything researchers picked up during the globalisation wave of the 90s and early 2000s. The anxiety is immediate, it is widespread, and it is already hardening into political identity. If governments and employers repeat the same mistake, capturing the economic upside while offloading the human cost, the political consequences will make the globalisation backlash look like a dry run. The reckoning will arrive in years, not decades.

Laura Tingle on ABC radio news says there are murmurs/discussions in the USA about the 25th amendment. About time too. Trump's erratic rants, unacceptable foul language & general incoherence all indicators that demented dangerous Donald is past his use by date. #auspol

Been a critic of ASIC many times but pleased to see evidence of them trying to be proactive in detecting & taking down AI scamming websites: abc.net.au/news/2026-04-0… Good work. Please sir, can I have some more? #auspol #ai

Refreshingly informative i/view from Fergo with Chris Bowen. I generally find him grating; too much Kabuki theater antics. But on the fuel crisis he's sounding forthright & sharing facts at hand. A welcome change & would like to see similar from all Ministers. #abc730 #auspol

@mesoepi The West is years behind China on SMRs. Keep an eye out for China's ACP100 Linglong One SMR due to enter commercial operations this year - the world's first (depending on hot testing). Very interesting reading: introl.com/blog/china-lin… #auspol

@innocent_abroad @Stella4Menzies No expert on these matters but inclined to agree with you that this would be the most viable future approach for Australia. Singapore really is an extremely important energy partner for us as they have good relations with Iran & China... all parties in fact.

@Stella4Menzies We would still depend on the Gulf states, who are nowhere near as reliable as Singapore, for crude oil, even if we poured massive amounts of taxpayer money into subsidising local refineries. Larger fuel reserves & greater adoption of renewables are the answer, not local refining.

Indeed. Australia has to depend on Singapore, Malaysia & South Korea for petroleum products. Tiny Singapore has a significant oil refinery industry and the lucky country does not #abc730 #auspol

@Stella4Menzies Tiny Singapore has the brains & good judgement to think & plan more than 5 minutes ahead and, it seems sadly evident to say, that we do not. #auspol #abc730

@_SocialDemocrat @JEChalmers I see your point. On face value that really seems extremely unfair & I'm struggling to think of a valid reason why it's like that. Maybe a polite letter to the PM to request consideration of a change, or at least to find out the reason? #auspol

I just naturally thought that when you turned 21 you would rightfully be entitled to the adult rate of Centrelink Jobseeker. That is not the case. Does anyone else have a problem with this? #auspol @JEChalmers

@Pentapolar112 A personal appearance is always good politics. Singapore is uniquely placed to help us (with refined fuel), and we them (our LNG gas generates their electricity). Imho, it's a great move by Albo to go there in person & explore all possible options of mutual benefit. #auspol

Smart & a possible master stroke from Albo to visit Singapore. They import a lot of our LNG to gen their electricity & we import a lot of their refined ME oil. They have good relations with all parties. Great scope for mutual assistance? Fingers crossed for a good result. #auspol

Al Jazeera reports IRGC saying the Strait of Hormuz is never going back to normal for the USA & Israel. As Australia is attached at the hip (or arse?) to USA, can a journo ask Marles, Bowen or Albo what this ACTUALLY means for Australia's long term fuel supply & costs? #auspol

Australians, especially children and young people, deserve nothing less than full protection from the harms of gambling advertising. What the govt has announced falls tragically short. Partial bans don't work, that why we got rid of cigarette advertising rather than just limiting the number of ads. We also need to tackle predatory behaviour like inducements. There's some positive measures but we need to keep pushing hard for a stronger bill to be introduced into parliament. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@SvenR213384 @SandraEckersley Of course China will look after itself first. Why shouldn't they.... they have well over a billion mouths to feed. But at least they don't go around starting & egging on wars all over the world the way the yanks have & continue to do. #auspol

@KymRob25112 @JohnOSullivan36 Yes; seems the only option. If we're lucky our suppliers will pay whatever bribes the Iranians want (a lot cheaper than Lloyds shipping insurance gouging anyway?). tl/dr: The days of petrol under $2Aud a litre are well & truly gone. Say hello to stagflation. Not good. #auspol
