At first glance, it feels calm and peaceful. But it wasn’t always like this. These stone steps once held thousands of people—citizens, soldiers, even emperors. The air would have been loud with voices, cheers, and tension. Gladiators fought here. Crowds reacted in seconds. Decisions made in this place could change lives instantly. Today, it’s silent. The same steps remain. The same view stretches into the distance. But the energy is gone, replaced by a strange stillness that you can actually feel as you walk through. There’s something about standing there. You start to think about all the people who were in that exact spot before you—watching, waiting, reacting. Their lives were very different, but in some ways, not so different at all. It’s just stone now. Quiet. Still. But it doesn’t feel empty.
