Aside from the more contemporary setting, The Sims is a bit more *personal.* That includes more detailed modeling, but Paralives and inZoi both make the mistake of focusing on build and character creation, when the most loved Sims game is Sims 2

The life sim genre definitely needs a dethroning, and inZoi and Paralives ain’t it. But every time I try to consider what a stripped down well thought out core gameplay loop would look like for it, I basically think of Rimworld. What’s the differentiating factor?

“Yeah, let’s announce a random collab while our 12-year-old game is still breaking after TWO consecutive updates, with the first introducing an in-game microtransactions even though we already have 115 DLCs. That’d be a swell idea”

@cairoasmith I noticed a tonal shift in Civ 6. Contempt for man and his achievements. It was sickening

The tech research quotes in Civ used to at least mostly celebrate the technology. In Civ VII you could research hammers and the quote would be like, "The hammer, another thing to drop on your toe — bell hooks."

Agentic coding doesn’t seem to produce anything good because once you’re ready to show off something good you don’t want to admit you did it with agents

@corsaren Pre-medication I used to be a dominant participant in the daily pre-standup chit chat, to the point where I felt borderline obnoxious. Now I don’t feel compelled to participate at all and I’m thinking “can we get to what we’re here for” …which also feels borderline obnoxious

My problem with ADHD meds is that they let me choose between being ENTP and INTJ, but both of them are insufferable

I love getting a mini shingles outbreak every time I’m sick. I love that I’m probably over the other thing now but still gotta get over the shingles. It’s so cool I had chicken pox when I was younger

One funny thing about coding with the bot is that even if you never run your tests (often it can’t automatically figure out how) that they’re there for it to read still increases code quality

The only human future is diet-communism for 99.9% of humanity, the other scenarios are unspeakable horrors as humanity is outcompeted in mass by the machines. The core question - does humanities grip on the monopoly of violence survive?

@tautologer Symbolic language is our top level of evolved comprehensible complexity. You’d think we could do something with sound/speech but then you’d lose the nonlinearity. Genuinely don’t think there is. Picking your symbols well goes a long way though

it's kinda crazy that when i'm writing code i'm using a visual system that's evolved to find food and evade predators to parse a rich visual field into, like, a handful of bits of information. there's got to be a better way
