This ref in general is NOT one to give out cards. This is yellow card. However, this ref doesn’t give yellows when they are yellows. This is technically a yellow at MOST! would only be a red if it had intention which the replay obviously doesn’t show and he showed that he admitted he was wrong and it wasn’t intentional. Those are are saying it is red are just people who are haters. Should have it been called a yellow if you’re really trying to stick to rules perfectly (which no ref does)? Yes. However, this ref is evenly applying his approach by not giving cards to those on the Algerian side too for times that other refs would have given a card. So that is why it is okay. The border of what is a foul vs yellow card vs red often resides in a grey area considering intention of a player and measured by of the ref if applying the same set of laxity to both teams.
