Eugène Flandin’s painting of the III. Ahmed Fountain was built in 1728 and is located in Sultanahmet Square, Istanbul. 🖼️ Commissioned by Grand Vizier Damat Ibrahim Pasha, the fountain presents an impressive blend of Baroque and traditional Ottoman architecture.

From the ceremonial coffee serving to the joyful henna night, postpartum rituals, circumcision ceremonies, and the iconic bridal bath, discover the fascinating customs that shaped social life in Ottoman culture.

This statement underscores his deep admiration for Istanbul. Today, around thirty of Ayvazovski’s works are preserved in various Turkish institutions, including Dolmabahçe Palace and the Naval Museum.

His masterpieces, such as “Istanbul from Galata” and “A Coffeehouse on the Bosphorus,” vividly depict the city’s architectural features and everyday life of the era. 🖼️

Ivan Konstantinovich Ayvazovski was an eminent marine painter who visited Istanbul several times between 1845 and 1890, during the reigns of four different sultans. ✨

He once remarked, “I am now beginning to paint a large picture of Istanbul... Perhaps there is no place more majestic than this city. When I visit Istanbul, Naples and Venice are forgotten.”

Renowned for his profound connection to the sea, Ayvazovski created over 200 paintings of Istanbul, showcasing his deep fascination with the city.
