For the first time in Norwegian history, a bus will carry passengers in regular traffic without any human behind the wheel. The first pilot without a safety driver was tested Friday, and if all goes as planned, anyone can ride driverless buses starting in May.

Deeply troubling news about the abduction and disappearance of Million Beyene, Addis Standard's managing editor by plainclothes individuals. Relevant authorities should urgently launch an investigation to whereabouts.
Addis Standard@addisstandard

#Ethiopia: Statement on the abduction of #Addis_Standard Managing Editor by plainclothes men from his workplace JAKENN Publishing PLC expresses grave concern over the disappearance of its Managing Editor, #Million_Beyene, who was taken at approximately 10:40 a.m. today (15 April 2026) from the newsroom by a group of unidentified individuals in plain clothes. The individuals informed Million that he was “needed for questioning” before taking him to an undisclosed location. Security camera footage reviewed by JAKENN shows a sequence of events in which multiple individuals in civilian clothing entered the building in a staggered manner over several minutes. The footage captures at least three men, wearing caps and face masks, and one without a cap and a face mask, moving through the stairwell area and coordinating their movements. Shortly thereafter, Million is seen being escorted out of the premises by the group. The individuals appear to act in a deliberate and organized manner, with one leading ahead while others follow closely behind as they exit the building together. Since then, JAKENN’s leadership and legal team have made extensive efforts throughout the day to establish his whereabouts. However, the #Addis_Abeba Police, #Federal_Police Commission, #Lemi_Kura Sub-City Police Department, and the #Meri area police station have all confirmed that Million Beyene is not in their custody. Jeylan Abdi, Communication Head of the Federal Police Commission, stated that Million Beyene is not under their custody. Separately, senior surveillance unit officers within both the Addis Abeba Police and the Federal Police Commission, who reviewed the security footage in response to inquiries, have stated that the individuals appearing in the video are not recognized as members of their respective forces. JAKENN Publishing PLC calls on the relevant authorities, including the Addis Abeba Police, the Federal Police Commission, and Ethiopian Human Rights Commission to launch an immediate, transparent, and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Million’s disappearance and to ensure his safe and prompt return. Million Beyene is a provider for his family and a seasoned professional with years of experience in both government and independent media. His abduction comes amid repeated and intensifying security and administrative pressures targeting Addis Standard’s newsroom and operations in recent months. “We strongly condemn this alarming act,” said Yonas Kedir, Editor-in-Chief of Addis Standard. “The taking of Million Beyene by unidentified individuals is unacceptable and deeply troubling. We call for his immediate release, and we urge authorities to act swiftly to ensure his safety and uphold the rule of law.” JAKENN Publishing PLC reiterates its commitment to the safety of its staff and to the principles of press freedom and the rule of law, and urges all concerned authorities to treat this matter with the utmost urgency it demands. addisstandard.com/?p=56522

A South African opposition party leader was found guilty of firing a firearm into the air at a public gathering without authorization. The incident occurred eight years ago. However, for this offense alone to result in a five-year sentence, it appears to me that he may have been targeted due to his political stance and strong, controversial views, potentially influenced by foreign countries that have repeatedly accused him and the South African government of failing to bring him to justice for conduct that they consider may constitute an offense under South African law.

"I'm going to the highest court, where they don't use emotions, they use the law," says Julius Malema, South Africa's🇿🇦 opposition leader, as he announces his intention to appeal his five-year prison sentence. He has been convicted of illegally possessing a firearm and discharging it during a political rally in 2018. Malema was sentenced today by Magistrate Twanet Olivier. “It is possible she is a member of AfriForum,” Malema alleges.

I think of war through the lens of someone who survived one. It means displacement and irreversible trauma. The continued war with Iran will mean more death, more suffering, and more chaos. End the war.

🇸🇪 SWEDEN’S GLOBAL EYE IS QUIETLY CHANGING THE RULES OF AIRBORNE WARFARE Sweden, a country long associated with precision engineering and understated military design, is now drawing global attention for an aircraft that is rewriting what modern airborne surveillance looks like. At the center of this shift is the Saab GlobalEye, developed by Saab. On the surface, it appears to be just another sleek business jet. In reality, it is one of the most capable multi domain intelligence platforms currently in service. Unlike traditional AWACS aircraft, which rely on size, heavy radar signatures, and constant support, GlobalEye takes a different approach. It blends range, endurance, and precision into a far more efficient and survivable system. Its Erieye ER radar can detect aerial threats at ranges exceeding 450 kilometers, including low flying targets and difficult to track profiles. Beyond the air domain, it extends its reach across sea and land, tracking vessels, monitoring coastlines, and even identifying ground movements in real time. This multi layered awareness allows it to act not just as an early warning system, but as a central node in modern network centric warfare. Endurance is another key advantage. With missions lasting over 11 hours, GlobalEye can maintain persistent surveillance over vast areas without the logistical footprint typically required by larger AWACS fleets. What Sweden has achieved here is not just another surveillance aircraft. It is a smarter concept of control, one that prioritizes efficiency, flexibility, and precision over brute force. In an era where detection and decision speed define the battlefield, GlobalEye reflects a clear philosophy. You do not need to be the biggest to dominate the sky.
