The MB Highway intersections at 1&5, 1&16, and 1&13 are becoming more dangerous everyday. The Carberry bus accident was a terrible tragedy. The Stars helicopters have been to all these intersections too many times. We know the government cant afford overpasses, so lets build "Kinews Curves" Australian sized traffic circles, where through traffic can maintain reasonable highways speeds of 80kmh. Merging and cross traffic can enter and exit safely. Large farm equipment, long and oversize trucks can safely enter and cross. Lack of safe semi truck parking can be rectified with rest stops in the middle and built at least 500 meters across. If an overpass was to be built in future, the detours are already in place. You will take some heat for this @WabKinew , but like Duffs Ditch, the people who are protected will come to realize Kinews Curves are a good idea. Manitoba you must be a member in good standing with the commodity organization, which means no check off refund. This has to be built into your cost of free money. One and only time I did the advance, the free money cost me 12% at an annual rate. You can also negotiate a better rate on operating loan with bank if they have ALL your loans which can add up to more than free money savings if you are at least a medium size farmer. Always look at big picture that is past the feel good headlines.

@webfarmer @4nierfarms You have to be able to provide security for the advance seems about the only requirement. I think it’s a good program to get some cash into people’s hands but debt is still debt.

Whether it’s a cash advance, an extension of credit terms for inputs or interest only payments on a loan it all needs to get paid back. (With interest)

@4nierfarms @rgstone1 Don’t forget the cost of the commodity Checkoffs that are required to take advantage of cash advances in most jurisdictions. Quickly becomes the most expensive “free” loan that can rival payday loan rates.

@rgstone1 I see the interest free cash advance as assistance, especially for younger start up operations. The 10X application charge increase to $500 takes a lot of advantage from it though.

@webfarmer @Kotyjo @BNNBloomberg It’s only deceiving if your understanding of financial aid is limited to free no strings attached payouts. Deferred payments on principal and flexible lending arrangements can be helpful if managed properly.

I have said this for years, why don’t our vehicles have a PIN code option available? Our policy is vehicles on farm are left with keys in them for emergency response. Parked in the field, they aren’t much use if keys are in someone’s pocket back in yard and there is a fire or medical issue or needing a goober uber. If only @elonmusk and @Tesla had given us a @slateauto truck, they would be king of the world.

Growers often ask if SnailCam could map mouse burrows in paddocks. I ran some tests, and the results look promising. The system can detect burrow openings and map them across the paddock. This could enable variable-rate mouse baiting instead of blanket spreading.
