Is the DeFi dream over? DeFi was both a movement and a sandbox for programmable money. Its cliche to say that most of what happened was "experimentation", when many lost money in the process, but thats the reality... And most of the experiments failed. Much of the idealism about DAOs, free market self-regulation, permissionless access and and token incentives didn't survive contact with reality. But a few thing worked beyond anyone's expectations: on-chain lending, DEXes, permissionless aggregation, self-custody wallets, stablecoins, asset issuance. It might not be the DeFi we all imagined, but fintech is going to be re-written from the ground up on this stack.

@RealDianeYap i mean often people accurately describe their babies and people accurately have a reaction of 'that seems very difficult and makes having kids less appealing'

I like Romy's content but I wonder if she realizes how potently anti-natalist most of her descriptions of son are. She has expressed concern about the birthrate, but I bet most people reading her posts conclude "That sounds awful, I definitely don't want that."

Personally think its highlight likely that the next 5 years will be the best time in history to be an entrepreneur, but then after that the role of 'founder/entrepreneur' is also obsolete as we know it

Enterprise stablecoin volume is the metric that matters. Consumer hype cycles come and go. B2B settlement volume just keeps compounding.

Stablecoins as the settlement layer for AI agents is inevitable. But anyone telling you it's happening this year is selling something. Tether's betting on it with QVAC. Venice is building towards it. Stripe too. The infrastructure is being laid.

VVV up 600% in 3 months. Privacy, permissionless, good token design. The reminder we all needed that sticking to crypto values can win.

@Nomo_derek It depends who you are and what you're doing. Crosschain swaps are becoming commoditised infra now, so the best provider for a DeFi user moving the long-tail of coins vs an enterprise client moving stablecoins at scale is very different.

New "stablecoin orchestration" startup every week. Crosschain swaps! Interop! Unified APIs! Red ocean of undifferentiated noise. The winners won't be generalists routing transactions. They'll dominate a niche set of clients for a niche set of use cases.

Coin prices down. Stablecoin adoption higher than ever. The memecoin casino and payments rails have nothing in common except sometimes a shared ledger.

The places where stablecoins are actually winning have one thing in common: groups that hold and transact entirely on-chain, avoiding on/off ramps. Happening in Africa with merchants and suppliers. Also happening quietly with crypto-native funds doing capital calls in USDT. The pattern isn't geography. It's closed loops.

The quiet part out loud: stablecoins with yield and instant global payments are just too good, so we need to ban them to protect banks that can't compete. Who would hold money in a 0.5% savings account when you can hold stablecoins, earn yield, and pay anyone globally for free?
