In the farming and agronomy game. CWNSW mixed farmer and mixed up agronomist. Even the big jobs are made of small bits which is what I like.

@lawbal44 Nice results Lawrence, it’s was a patchy spring. Any idea why the grazing wheats varied so much? I haven’t been able to split them from where I’ve been.

Last wheat paddock finished 🥳 Illabo was the standout 6T/ha, Brighton respectable 4.9T. Raider varied, late sown wheat on wheat 3.5T and following canola 4.6T. Then in the rush to oat paddock HE bin got flat tyre. Got the truck instead but guess who didn’t check back door… 😖

@lawbal44 I love the TF @lawbal44 especially this week. Calving cows very happy. New varieties are more palatable and leaving a bit for summer isn’t a bad thing. But costs us a few tie rod ends and shocks that’s for sure!

I dropped fescue out of my pasture mixes this year because of the difficulty managing its grazing with the other species. In short the sheep will eat everything else into the ground before they turn to it. But it does give a handy architecture on cold wet days for young lambs.

To my farming mates, Rain is coming, everyone is tired, busted & cranky either trying to get winter crop in or summer crop off, or both. But please be careful & slow down a little to make sure you get home to your family tonight. 2 good men in 2 weeks lost around here.

Now hitting major flood level of 10.7m on Lachlan River here at Eugowra and still plenty of water upstream to get here yet. Will be a day of waiting to see how high it gets but definitely looks like higher than 2016 level. This paddock was good pasture fattening 90 yearlings.

@lawbal44 Glad you’re still dropping some Barberia @lawbal44, will be interesting to see if this good establishment year helps it last a bit longer

@lawbal44 @farmboyG We import heaps more than we send away, 80% losses in the supply chain makes plenty of room to improve.

@wrightim1 @farmboyG Listening to radio National will ruin my reputation as a vicious right wing bastard Tim! Agree fert prices likely to stay high especially with energy prices where they are. Interesting listen but can a country like Aus that exports so much P recover enough ilfrom recycle/reuse?.

@farmboyG Unfortunately every time they put up a new project the P price crashes and they are unviable. Think I read somewhere fert prices have to be around $1000/T for most Aus deposits to be viable. Perhaps something for the ‘nation building’ Nats to get behind?

Meanwhile off Broome there’s no sign of the virus, no floods, the occasional postcard vid from our gap year girl … and a good reason to give rest of us a miss for while 🙂

Great local talent on display last night in town at the Canowindra @Flickerfest screening @pjwattagrocowra gave a hearty performance in #dustcloud the short film world premiere. The little film that broke the drought! All the best with the agronomy side hustle from now on Pete..

@s_simpfendorfer Thanks @s_simpfendorfer for the advice. It may calm a few nerves, these crops in CW NSW were pretty soft and under grazed when a couple of <-2C frosts hit. Unaffected almost in sheltered areas. All good probs to have at last👍

Why is it always on Friday’s? Widespread reports of sudden yellowing in longer season wheat varieties especially Kittyhawk. This is NOT related to rust or other fungal disease. Fungicide not required. Has only shown up after severe frosts and appears worse in more advanced plants

Interesting to see how #farmtrees don’t seem to bother deep rooted perennial grasses. Beneficial effects in this tall fescue/ Cocksfoot at Eugowra from shading western sun. Gone for all money in March - it’s been an amazing recovery #drought hardy and productive.
